They added it before the jet's first test flights. The UK is spending a lot of money, about GBP 2.35 billion, to make the Typhoon better.The radar system was made by Leonardo UK. It has a special multi-functional array (MFA) that helps the Typhoon do different things at the same time. It can find, recognize, and follow many targets in the air and on the ground. It can also do electronic warfare operations.Before putting it on a real jet, they tested the radar a lot on the ground at BAE Systems' place in Lancashire. Now, it's on a Typhoon test jet (BS116) in the UK. This is a big improvement for the jet.This upgrade doesn't just make the UK's defense better. It also helps the Prime Minister's plan for the country's economy to grow. About 1,300 engineering jobs in the UK will continue for the next ten years because of this upgrade.

ISRO has developed a second-generation 'Distress Alert Transmitter' (DAT), incorporating advanced satellite communication and navigation capabilities that allow fishermen at sea to send emergency messages from fishing boats and get acknowledgement in real time.The DAT has been operational since 2010 and more than 20,000 of them are currently in use, the space agency said. The messages are sent through a communication satellite and received at a central control station (INMCC: Indian Mission Control Centre) where the alert signals are decoded for the identity and location of the fishing boat, according to an ISRO statement.The extracted information is forwarded to Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centres (MRCCs) under the Indian Coast Guard (ICG)."Using this information the MRCC undertakes Search and Rescue operations to save the fishermen in distress," it said.Taking advantage of technological developments in satellite communication and satellite navigation, ISRO has improvised DAT with advanced capabilities and features, evolving to Second Generation DAT (DAT-SG).The DAT-SG has the facility to send back acknowledgement to the fishermen who activate the distress alert from the sea. "This gives him an assurance that rescue (team) is coming to him.Apart from transmitting distress signals from the sea, DAT-SG has the capability to receive messages from the control centre," ISRO said.Using this, advance alert messages can be sent to the fishermen at sea whenever there are events of bad weather, cyclone, tsunami or any other emergencies.Thus, the fishermen will be able to sail back home or go to safe places. Further, the information about Potential Fishing Zones (PFZs) are also transmitted to fishermen using DAT-SG on regular intervals. This helps fishermen get good catch and savings in terms of time and fuel.DAT-SG can be connected to mobile phones using Bluetooth interface and the messages can be read in native language using an app on the mobile."The INMCC has a web-based network management system called 'SAGARMITRA' which maintains a database of registered DAT-SGs and helps MRCCs access the information about boat, and the coordinates of the boat in distress in real time. This helps the Indian Coast Guard undertake Search & Rescue operations at the time of distress, without any time delay," it said.Secretary in the Department of Space and ISRO Chairman S Somanath inaugurated the DAT-SG in the presence of ICG Director General Rakesh Pal on January 15 at INMCC, ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network, Bengaluru. The services of DAT-SG have been declared operational on a 24x7 basis, it was stated.

Space News ,U.S :- Axiom Space is all set to launch its third private astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS). However, there are some technical issues that have made the launch preparations a bit tight on schedule.On January 16, Axiom, NASA, and SpaceX officials shared in a media teleconference that they are moving forward with the planned Ax-3 mission launch to the ISS on January 17. The Falcon 9 is scheduled to take off at 5:11 p.m. Eastern, carrying a Crew Dragon spacecraft that will dock with the station about 36 hours later.Originally, the launch readiness review, the final major check before launch, was supposed to happen before the media briefing. However, it got postponed to early January 17 to allow more time for the teams to get everything ready.Over the weekend, inspections revealed issues with joints connecting the Dragon spacecraft to the Falcon 9 upper stage. Two of the four joints were adjusted a bit differently than usual, according to Benji Reed, senior director of human spaceflight programs at SpaceX. As a precaution, SpaceX decided to replace the connections, causing a delay in launch preparations.Another challenge found during preparations involved the parachute system. Inspections from a previous cargo Dragon spacecraft splashdown in December showed that certain straps, known as "energy modulators," didn't function as intended. SpaceX took precautions by untwisting these straps in the Ax-3 Crew Dragon spacecraft's parachute system. They are collaborating with NASA to make sure this won't be an issue during the mission.Despite these challenges, the launch teams worked hard to keep the launch on schedule. The Ax-3 mission is part of Axiom Space's series of private astronaut missions, paving the way for commercial modules on the ISS. These modules will eventually become the core of a new commercial space station after the ISS retires.Axiom aims to continue these missions twice a year until their first module is installed in late 2026. The next mission, Ax-4, is tentatively set for the fall of 2024.The Ax-3 mission is led by Michael López-Alegría, Axiom's chief astronaut, and includes pilot Walter Villadei from the Italian Air Force. The mission specialists are Alper Gezeravcı from Turkey and Marcus Wandt from Sweden. Gezeravcı will be Turkey's first person in space, and Wandt will be the second from Sweden, thanks to collaboration with the European Space Agency.While the Ax-3 team faces challenges, they are excited about the mission, especially López-Alegría, for whom this will be his sixth trip to space. He expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "As long as they ask me to fly, my hand will be raised."

This group, part of Task Force 59, will manage both unmanned and manned systems to boost maritime security in the region.Task Force 59, the navy’s first unmanned and artificial intelligence (AI) segment in the Middle East, has been operating since 2021. It has deployed autonomous capabilities in locations like Bahrain, Aqaba, and Jordan.According to Task Force 59 Commodore Capt. Colin Corridan, Task Group 59.1 breaks away from traditional acquisition models, creating a connection between industry partners and end-user operators. The aim is to seamlessly integrate new technology introduced to operators in the field.Task Force 59's mission aligns with the US 5th Fleet's goals of maintaining maritime defense and stability in key areas, including the Red Sea, Arabian Gulf, Gulfs of Oman and Aden, the Arabian Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean. The operational area spans 2.5 million square miles and includes crucial choke points like the Suez Canal, Strait of Hormuz, and Strait of Bab el Mandeb.Captain Corridan expressed enthusiasm for the future, stating that the team at 59.1, selected to pioneer this initiative, will lead the Navy in the hybrid fleet ecosystem.The US 5th Fleet had previously used drones over the Arabian Peninsula to monitor Iranian Navy and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps activities. In the same vein, the US Navy collaborated with its UAE counterparts in the Arabian Gulf for their first unmanned systems and AI bilateral exercise. In 2022, the Central Command deployed over 100 unmanned vessels in the Middle East to deter maritime threats.
