Defense News ,India :- On Thursday, Akasa Air revealed a significant development in its growth strategy by placing an order for 150 Boeing 737 Max planes. The relatively young airline, operating for less than two years, aims to enhance both its domestic and international presence with this substantial aircraft acquisition. The order, consisting of a mix of 737 Max 10 and 737 Max 8-200 jets, is anticipated to fortify Akasa Air's fleet, ensuring a continuous influx of new aircraft until 2032. This strategic move aligns with the airline's ambitious plans for expansion and consolidation on both the national and global fronts.
Akasa Air had previously made its mark in 2021 with an initial order for 72 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, followed by an additional order for 4 Boeing 737 Max 8 planes in June 2023. With the latest procurement in January 2024, the airline's total order book now stands at an impressive 226 aircraft. Currently operating a fleet of 22 aircraft, Akasa Air is poised to receive a substantial influx of 204 additional aircraft over the next eight years, marking a significant leap in its operational capacity.
Vinay Dube, the Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, expressed enthusiasm about this monumental aircraft acquisition, stating that it positions the airline on a trajectory to become one of the top 30 leading airlines globally by the end of the decade. He emphasized the crucial role these new additions would play in strengthening operations, supporting the airline's expansion efforts, and marking its entry into international skies in the near future. The announcement of this substantial order was made during the Wings India 2024 event, underscoring Akasa Air's commitment to growth and innovation. Having commenced its commercial operations on August 7, 2022, Akasa Air continues to make significant strides in the aviation industry.
