North Korea Conducts Test of Underwater Nuclear Weapons System

Defense News ,North Korea :- North Korea has announced the successful testing of its underwater nuclear weapons system, known as the "Haeil-5-23," as a demonstration against the joint military exercises conducted by South Korea, the United States, and Japan this week, according to state media KCNA.

The test was conducted by North Korea's defense ministry think tank in the waters off its east coast. The report did not specify the exact date of the test. The "Haeil-5-23" system refers to North Korea's nuclear-capable underwater attack drones.

An unnamed spokesman from the defense ministry stated, "Our army's underwater nuke-based countering posture is being further rounded off, and its various maritime and underwater responsive actions will continue to deter the hostile military maneuvers of the navies of the U.S. and its allies."

The joint military drills involved the navies of South Korea, the United States, and Japan and took place over three days until Wednesday. The exercises, which included the U.S. aircraft carrier Carl Vinson, were designed to enhance the capabilities of the three nations in responding to the threats posed by North Korea's nuclear program.
