Defense News ,U.S :- U.S. forces may have unintentionally allowed an enemy drone to infiltrate a desert base in Jordan, resulting in the tragic death of three U.S. troops and injuries to dozens more, officials revealed on Monday. The incident occurred when a U.S. drone returning to the base failed to intercept the approaching enemy drone, which subsequently targeted a sleeping quarters trailer.Details of the attack emerged as President Joe Biden navigates a delicate situation, seeking to hold Iran accountable for the strike while avoiding further escalation in the Gaza conflict. The preliminary report suggests that the low-altitude approach of the enemy drone went unnoticed due to the simultaneous return of a U.S. drone to the base.Despite the presence of counter-drone systems like Coyote drone interceptors, no efforts were made to shoot down the infiltrating drone, leading to casualties among the U.S. troops stationed at the installation known as Tower 22. The Pentagon identified the soldiers killed in the attack and reported over 40 wounded, with some evacuated for medical treatment. While blaming Iran for the incident, the Biden administration emphasized that it is not seeking war with Iran but will respond appropriately. The attack adds complexity to the already tense situation in the Middle East, with efforts to prevent the Israel-Hamas war from escalating into a broader regional conflict. The article highlights the challenges faced by the U.S. in balancing retaliation with the goal of avoiding a wider conflict, especially in the context of ongoing attacks by Iranian proxies on U.S. troops in the region. The incident in Jordan marks the first time American service members have been killed in such attacks since the conflict began. As the U.S. contemplates its response, the article discusses the political dynamics involved, including Iran's denial of involvement and calls for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. The attack underscores the need for the U.S. to address ongoing threats from Iranian-backed militias, with critics, including some Republicans, accusing President Biden of insufficient deterrence.Former national security adviser John Bolton suggests that until Iran faces consequences, deterrence cannot be reestablished. The article also touches upon the potential impact on negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire and the release of hostages, with signs of progress reported before the tragic incident in Jordan. The situation raises questions about the effectiveness of U.S. air defenses and the broader implications for regional stability, prompting President Biden to weigh his options in response to the deadly attack on American forces in Jordan.

Defense News ,US :- In a groundbreaking development within the US military, a comprehensive indirect fire protection initiative is underway, targeting a spectrum of threats ranging from missiles to mortar shells. At the forefront of this extensive project is the Enduring Shield air defense system, a revolutionary technology geared towards deflecting long-range cruise missiles and advanced drone threats, as reported by BulgarianMilitary.com.The munitions slated for use in this initiative are generating considerable buzz, with the reliable AIM-9X Sidewinder being a named contender. The Pentagon is actively seeking a fitting companion for this missile and has issued a crucial request, marking the initial step in the search for a complementary missile. By 2025, they aim to finalize a supplier, potentially more than one, and plan to conduct a capability demonstration in the subsequent two years. What adds an intriguing layer to this development is the existing partnership of the AIM-9X with the AIM-120, constituting the standard armament for all American aircraft and serving as the backbone of the NASAMS air defense system. Lockheed Martin is rumored to enter the competition, possibly with an undisclosed Rafael missile, while speculation surrounds the potential adaptation of the robust Tamir from the Iron Dome under the new name SkyHunter.Uncertainty lingers on whether RTX (Raytheon) will participate in the selection of the second rocket, considering its victory with the AIM-9. Brigadier General Frank Lozano, the executive director of the US military’s missile and space program, suggested that the AIM-120 might not be the optimal choice for this type of air defense mechanism due to launcher capacity considerations in combating cruise missiles. The Enduring Shield launcher, designed to house 18 AIM-9X missiles, presents a challenge if loaded with AIM-120 launchers, accommodating only six comfortably. This discrepancy prompts the US military to seek a missile that combines the capabilities of the AIM-120D while retaining the compact size of the AIM-9X.The significance of launcher capacity becomes evident when assessing the potential target takedowns. An Enduring Shield equipped with AIM-9X-sized missiles has the capacity to engage up to 72 targets, compared to a maximum of 24 targets with AIM-120. The sheer volume of cruise missiles or long-distance missile aircraft underscores the key role played by the quantity of launch-ready missiles in an air defense system. The AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles are integral components of the Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS), working in tandem to provide a comprehensive air defense solution. The AIM-9 handles short-range engagements, while the AIM-120 is employed for longer-range scenarios, creating a layered defense against various aerial threats. The dual-mode guidance capabilities of both infrared and radar systems enhance NASAMS's overall effectiveness. The AIM-9’s infrared homing tracks and engages heat-emitting targets, while the AIM-120’s radar homing engages non-visual range or low-heat targets. This versatile combination allows NASAMS to effectively cover a wide range of potential threat distances. The AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile, or AMRAAM, developed by the United States, serves as a modern, multi-purpose air-to-air weapon system. Utilized by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and allied nations, the AIM-120 is designed for beyond-visual-range scenarios, offering a significant advantage in aerial combat

Those aligned with the Pakistani administration find themselves without a true ally. Just ask the Afghans, Palestinians, or us about the atrocities inflicted upon us."The primary threat to PoK, still forcefully occupied by Pakistan since 1948, lies in its abundant natural resources. Gilani emphasized that the Pakistan administration is not only oppressing PoK but also perpetrating atrocities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting even national leaders who served the country.Gilani questioned the nature of the administration, democracy, and Islam under which such actions are taken, calling them unprecedented lies in human history. He highlighted the administration's refusal to listen to PoK's pleas for freedom, labeling them as anti-Pakistan and anti-Islam, hindering the region's economic progress. The people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have reached a tipping point, realizing that waiting for their deserved rights is futile. Consequently, they are leaving no stone unturned to ensure their voices are heard, despite potential repercussions at the hands of the Pakistan Army and establishment. The ongoing protests in PoK serve as a stark example of the shifting tide, where those who once showed minimal resistance towards Islamabad are now actively orchestrating demonstrations, fully aware of the possible consequences of standing against the Pakistani security forces. The people of PoK are determined to assert their rights and challenge the status quo that has marginalized them for far too long.

Defense News ,Pakistan :- On January 3rd, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officially unveiled its latest addition to the fleet, a SAAB-2000-based Erieye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, as reported by the Canada-based Pak defense website Quwa. The newly acquired aircraft, designated as "23-058," was showcased as part of a comprehensive ceremony marking the induction of various aircraft types, including the Chengdu J-10CE Dragon multirole fighters, ex-Belgian Air Force C-130H Hercules airlifters, and other logistics and auxiliary aircraft. The SAAB Erieye boasts an advanced active electronically scanned array (AESA)-based system with a remarkable detection range of up to 450 km. Through data-link connectivity, the Erieye can seamlessly share sensor data with friendly air and ground assets. The system includes five mission operator consoles for effective coordination between the AEW&C and connected air assets, such as fighter aircraft. With the addition of unit '23-058,' the PAF's Erieye fleet has expanded to seven to nine aircraft. While Quwa visually confirmed seven aircraft, public records list serials for eight active units. The PAF has acquired the Erieye through three separate orders. The initial order in 2006 for six AEW&Cs (plus one standard SAAB 2000) was valued at $1.15 billion US but was later reduced to four aircraft due to the 2005 earthquake in Kashmir. Subsequent orders in 2017 and 2020 further strengthened the PAF's Erieye capabilities.Despite challenges, including a terrorist attack in 2012 that damaged three out of four aircraft, the PAF successfully restored its Erieye AEW&C fleet to four by 2016. In 2017, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman announced an additional order for three Erieye AEW&C aircraft. The delivery of 'Batch-II' Erieye AEW&Cs, recorded in export-import logs, was completed in 2019. SAAB later secured a sale in May 2020, delivering Erieye systems between 2020 and 2023, with the PAF confirming its role as the undisclosed buyer through the induction of aircraft with serial numbers '20-057' and '23-058' in December 2023.Quwa's examination of serial numbers confirms the PAF's possession of seven Erieye systems from the 2006, 2017, and 2020 orders. However, the discrepancy in stated serial records suggests that the PAF currently operates nine Erieye systems.

Defense NEws ,US :- In a tragic incident on Sunday, a drone attack targeted a base in Jordan, resulting in the death of three American troops and injuries to over 30 individuals. President Joe Biden attributed the attack to Iran-backed militants, vowing to hold them accountable. This marks the first time American military personnel have been killed by hostile fire in the Middle East during the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran-backed Hamas.President Biden, addressing the attack, stated, "While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq." He pledged to hold those responsible accountable in a manner and at a time of the United States' choosing. The incident occurred at a logistics support base, Tower 22, in northeast Jordan, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM). The base, with around 350 US Army and Air Force personnel, plays a crucial role in supporting the international coalition against the Islamic State jihadist group. As tensions rise in the region, with fears of a broader conflict involving Tehran, various reactions emerged. Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri deemed the attack a message to the American administration, warning of potential consequences unless the violence against innocent people in Gaza ceases.Jordan's government initially misreported the location of the attack, later clarifying that it targeted an advanced position on the border with Syria. The international community, including Bahrain, Egypt, and Britain, condemned the attack, with the UK's Foreign Secretary David Cameron urging Iran to de-escalate tensions in the region. This incident poses a significant challenge for President Biden in an election year, with critics, including former President Donald Trump, attributing it to perceived weaknesses in Biden's approach. The Middle East has witnessed escalating violence, with over 150 attacks on US and allied forces in Iraq and Syria since mid-October. The conflict, exacerbated by the Israel-Hamas clashes, has drawn in Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, heightening concerns of a broader regional conflict directly involving Iran – a scenario the United States is eager to avoid.
