Defense News ,Ukraine :- NATO head Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday alliance members "are not providing Ukraine with enough ammunition" and the shortfall has allowed Russia to push Kyiv's forces back."The Ukrainians are not running out of courage. They are running out of ammunition," Stoltenberg told journalists."Together, we have the capacity to provide Ukraine what it needs. Now we need to show the political will to do so."Stoltenberg's warning comes as military support from key Kyiv backer, the United States, remains blocked in Congress by hardline Republicans opposed to President Joe Biden."All allies need to dig deep and deliver quickly. Every day of delay has real consequences on the battlefield in Ukraine," the secretary general of the Western military alliance said."So this is a critical moment and it will be a grave historic mistake to allow Putin to prevail."Ukrainian and Western officials have said that Kyiv's forces are being outgunned by Russia as support from key backers has dwindled.Ukraine was recently forced out of the strategic stronghold of Avdiivka after a fierce battle and its soldiers are struggling to stop Russia pushing further. While political deadlock is stalling support from Washington, European countries are struggling to ramp up production of ammunition and arms from their industry."We need the decisions to invest more in the defence industry," Stoltenberg said."We need to ensure that our governments are agreeing contracts with the defence industry so they can make the commercial decisions to scale up production."The European Union has launched a string of initiatives to try to increase output and insists that levels are picking up.But the 27-nation bloc has fallen well short of a promise made last year to give Ukraine a million artillery shells by this month.

This achievement marks a pivotal moment in Türkiye's efforts to reduce external dependency on critical equipment through the development of indigenous technologies. The newly tested TF6000 jet engine is a cornerstone in Türkiye's quest to enhance its defense capabilities, particularly in the development of its first fifth-generation fighter jet, KAAN. Spearheaded by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), Türkiye's foray into turbofan engine development symbolizes a commitment to technological advancement and sovereignty in defense manufacturing.SSB President Haluk Görgün expressed pride in Türkiye's achievement, stating, "Türkiye’s first national turbofan engine TF6000, powered by the energy of our homeland sons, has been successfully tested for the first time in the national engine test system." This success is attributed to the collaborative efforts of Türkiye's aerospace industry, particularly TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI), a joint venture between Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and GE Aerospace. TEI's role in developing and producing engines for aircraft and missiles underscores Türkiye's capabilities in high-tech defense manufacturing. The TF6000 engine holds promise beyond its immediate application in the KAAN fighter jet. It is expected to power other advanced military platforms, including the unmanned fighter jet Kızılelma and Anka-3, Türkiye's first flying-wing, deep-strike unmanned aerial vehicle. Görgün emphasized the significance of this achievement by extending congratulations to all involved in the project, particularly the engineers and technical teams whose dedication made it possible.Kızılelma, Türkiye's fifth-generation unmanned fighter jet, represents a leap forward in reconnaissance and missile-carrying capabilities. Equipped with artificial intelligence, Kızılelma promises enhanced speed and payload capacity, expanding Türkiye's aerial defense capabilities. Similarly, Anka-3, the first vertical tailless drone, is poised to redefine unmanned aerial vehicle operations with its versatility in reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence missions. In addition to the TF6000, Türkiye is actively pursuing the development of the TF10000 jet engine, an upgraded version expected to produce even greater thrust. This engine, envisioned to power a range of manned and unmanned aviation platforms, including the KAAN fighter jet, underscores Türkiye's commitment to innovation and self-sufficiency in defense technology. Mahmut Faruk Akşit, head of TEI, highlighted the progress of the TF10000 project, indicating its imminent completion. The KAAN fighter jet project, launched in 2016, aims to modernize Türkiye's Air Forces Command by replacing the aging F-16 fleet. With its inaugural flight conducted recently, KAAN is set to enter mass production, with plans for the initial batch to be ready by 2028. Powered initially by the F110 engine developed by General Electric, KAAN is slated to transition to a domestically manufactured power unit produced by TEI, cementing Türkiye's status as a producer of fifth-generation combat aircraft.TEI's expertise extends beyond turbofan engines, with developments such as the PD170 engine tailored for unmanned aerial vehicles. These advancements in engine technology are poised to support Türkiye's defense initiatives across various platforms, including the domestically developed heavy-class attack helicopter, the Atak-2. As Türkiye prepares for the mass production of engines for helicopters, it reaffirms its commitment to technological self-reliance and innovation in defense manufacturing.

It has a strong battery that can last for 110 hours. The REMUS 620 can dive down to 600 meters (1,900 feet) deep. It can carry different types of payloads, either wet or dry, depending on what the user needs. This drone has many uses. It can help with tasks like finding and dealing with mines, watching over areas for surveillance, gathering intelligence, using electronic warfare, and doing surveys of the ocean floor.HII first introduced the REMUS 620 in November 2022. They tested it in the water in October 2023 and then tested it in the sea two months later. In August 2023, HII got its first order for the REMUS 620 from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They wanted to use it to help fix areas on the sea floor damaged by an oil spill in 2010.This new contract with the Indo-Pacific customer is the second one HII has gotten for the REMUS 620.Duane Fotheringham, who is the president of HII's Mission Technologies Unmanned Systems, says that the REMUS 620 is a great underwater vehicle. It can do many different jobs and go far distances.HII also introduced another drone called the REMUS 130. It's smaller and can dive down to 100 meters (300 feet). Its battery lasts for 10 hours. This drone keeps the good features of older REMUS models while being smaller and easier to use.
Read More → Posted on 2024-03-14 15:47:40Defense News ,Red Sea :- Yemen's Houthi rebels claim to have a new, hypersonic missile in their arsenal, Russia's state media reported on Thursday, potentially raising the stakes in their ongoing attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and surrounding waterways against the backdrop of Israel's war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The report by the state-run RIA Novosti news agency cited an unnamed official but provided no evidence for the claim. It comes as Moscow maintains an aggressively counter-Western foreign policy amid its grinding war on Ukraine. However, the Houthis have for weeks hinted about "surprises" they plan for the battles at sea to counter the United States and its allies, which have so far been able to down any missile or bomb-carrying drone that comes near their warships in Mideast waters. The Houthis' main benefactor, Iran, claims to have a hypersonic missile and has widely armed the rebels with the missiles they now use. Adding a hypersonic missile to their arsenal could pose a more-formidable challenge to the air defense systems employed by America and its allies, including Israel."The group's missile forces have successfully tested a missile that is capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 8 and runs on solid fuel," a military official close to the Houthis said, according to the RIA report. The Houthis "intend to begin manufacturing it for use during attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as well as against targets in Israel."Mach 8 is eight times the speed of sound.Russia has maintained close ties with Iran, relying on Iranian bomb-carrying drones to target Ukraine. Russian state media, particularly its Arabic-language services, have closely reported on Yemen's yearslong civil war that pits the Iran-backed Houthis against forces of the internationally backed Yemeni government, supported by a Saudi-led coalition.Hypersonic weapons, which fly at speeds higher than Mach 5, could pose crucial challenges to missile defence systems because of their speed and maneuverability. The danger from a hypersonic missile depends on how maneuverable it is. Ballistic missiles fly on a trajectory in which anti-missile systems like the US-made Patriot can anticipate their path and intercept them. The more irregular the missile's flight path, such as a hypersonic missile with the ability to change directions, the more difficult it becomes to intercept.China is believed to be pursuing the weapons, as is America. Russia claims it has already used them on the battlefield in Ukraine. However, speed and maneuverability isn't a guarantee the missile will successfully strike a target. Ukraine's air force in May said it shot down a Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missile with a Patriot battery. In Yemen, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the Houthi rebels' secretive supreme leader, boasted about the rebels' weapons efforts at the end of February."We have surprises that the enemies do not expect at all," he warned at the time.A week ago, he similarly warned: "What is coming is greater.""The enemy ... will see the level of achievements of strategic importance that place our country in its capabilities among the limited and numbered countries in this world," al-Houthi said, without elaborating. After seizing Yemen's capital, Sanaa, in 2014, the Houthis ransacked government arsenals, which held Soviet-era Scud missiles and other arms.As the Saudi-led coalition entered Yemen's conflict in 2015, the Houthis arsenal was increasingly targeted. Soon - and despite Yemen having no indigenous missile manufacturing infrastructure - newer missiles made their way into rebel hands.Iran long has denied arming the Houthis, likely because of a yearslong United Nations arms embargo on the rebels. However, the US and its allies have seized multiple arms shipments bound for the rebels in Mideast waters. Weapons experts as well have tied Houthi arms seized on the battlefield back to Iran.Iran also now claims to have a hypersonic weapon. In June, Iran unveiled its Fattah, or "Conqueror" in Farsi, missile, which it described as being a hypersonic. It described another as being in development.Iran's mission to the UN did not respond to a request for comment Thursday, nor did the US Navy's Bahrain-based 5th Fleet, which patrols Mideast waterways.Israel's military - which also has come under Houthi fire since the war against Hamas erupted on October 7 when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 others hostage - declined to comment. The Houthis have attacked ships since November, saying they want to force Israel to end the war in Gaza, which has seen over 31,000 Palestinians killed in the besieged strip. The ships attacked, however, have increasingly had little or no connection to Israel, the US or other nations involved in the war.But the assaults have raised the profile of the Houthis, whose Zaydi people ruled a 1,000-year kingdom in Yemen up until 1962. Adding a new weapon increases that cachet and puts more pressure on Israel after a cease-fire deal failed to take hold in Gaza before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.Earlier in March, a Houthi missile struck a commercial ship in the Gulf of Aden, killing three of its crew members and forcing survivors to abandon the vessel. It marked their first fatal attack by the Houthis on shipping.Other recent Houthi actions include an attack last month on a cargo ship carrying fertilizer, the Rubymar, which later sank after drifting for several days, and the downing of an American drone worth tens of millions of dollars.A new suspected Houthi attack targeted a ship in the Gulf of Aden on Thursday, but missed the vessel and caused no damage, the British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre said.Fabian Hinz, a missile expert and research fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, said he wouldn't be surprised if Iran transferred a new, hypersonic weapon to the Houthis. However, the question is how maneuverable such a weapon would be at hypersonic speeds and whether it could hit moving targets, like ships in the Red Sea."I wouldn't exclude the possibility that the Houthis have some system that has some maneuvering capability to some extent," Hinz said. "It is also possible for the Iranians to transfer new stuff for the Houthis to test it."

This is much more than what Europe and the US can make combined in a year, which is about 1.2 million. They also shared that the US and Europe together can't match Russia's production. They can only make about 1.2 million rounds in a year. This is according to a senior intelligence person from Europe who talked to CNN.The US wants to make 100,000 rounds every month by 2025. But that's still much less than what Russia is making each month.Right now, Russia is firing about 10,000 shells every day. This is a lot more than Ukraine, which is firing only about 2,000 shells each day. And in some places, Russia is doing even worse damage along the 600-mile front.A company from Germany called Rheinmetall plans to build a factory in Ukraine. North Korea sees these drills as practice for a potential invasion.During Wednesday's training, the focus was on evaluating the combat abilities of tank operators, using the new main battle tank that Kim referred to as "the world’s most powerful," as reported by the official Korean Central News Agency. The training involved heavy tanks maneuvering through simulated combat scenarios and firing at targets. Kim himself even took the wheel of one of the new tanks, boosting the morale of the tank crews, according to KCNA.Earlier, North Korea's Defense Ministry promised to conduct "responsible military activities" in response to the ongoing joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States. Kim also supervised artillery firing drills. The South Korean-U.S. exercises include computer-simulated command post training and 48 different field exercises, twice the number from last year.Since early 2022, North Korea has been increasing its weapons testing activities to upgrade its nuclear and missile capabilities. In response, the U.S. and South Korea have expanded their training exercises, including a trilateral drill involving Japan.Analysts are scrutinizing the available photos and videos released by North Korean state media to glean some clues about the tank's capabilities. Here's what they have been able to determine so far: The tank appears to be a new design, not an upgrade of an existing North Korean tank. The tank has a large main gun, which could be 125mm or 130mm caliber. The tank appears to have a new fire control system and possibly an autoloader. The tank has additional armor on the turret, which may be designed to defend against anti-tank missiles. Overall, it is too early to say definitively what the capabilities of the new North Korean tank are. More information will be needed to assess its true threat level.
