The last batch of these jets will be delivered by early 2026.This whole process started in September 2022 when Jakarta signed a contract for six Rafale jets. Later, in August 2023, they ordered 18 more. The total cost of this deal is estimated to be around $8.1 billion. The Rafale jets are powerful and can do many types of missions. They can defend the air and do reconnaissance. Plus, they can be equipped with long-range air-to-air missiles and laser-guided bombs for ground support.Indonesia is focusing on building up its air defense capabilities, especially with tensions rising in Southeast Asia. Last year, they planned to buy used planes from countries like Qatar and Japan. However, due to budget limits, they had to cancel a plan to get Mirage fighter jets from Qatar. Instead, they're upgrading the combat jets they already have. Also, Indonesia decided not to buy Sukhoi Su-35s from Russia. They thought the process would take too long, and there were worries about possible sanctions from the US.

HALO, designed as an advanced air-to-surface weapon, boasts an impressive capability to travel at Mach 5, equivalent to a staggering 6,174 kilometers or 3,836 miles per hour. The primary purpose of HALO's development is to enhance long-range firing operations, ensuring the Navy's dominance over contested battlespaces. The recent technical review of the HALO testbed marked a crucial milestone in the initial phase of the program. This assessment followed Raytheon's use of cutting-edge digital and model-based manufacturing methods for the prototype fabrication. In a significant move, Raytheon conducted a fit-check of HALO on an F/A-18 Hornet supersonic fighter jet last year. This step aimed to validate the missile's interoperability with the aircraft and its compatibility with existing support equipment.Colin Whelan, President of Raytheon Advanced Technology, emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, "This is a key step in fielding the Navy’s first anti-ship hypersonic missile. It’s critical that our warfighters have proven technology that can address advanced threats in contested environments, and they need this technology now."Raytheon and its industry partner, Lockheed Martin, were awarded $116 million in contracts in March of the previous year to undertake the HALO program's first phase. This stage focuses on the technical maturation of the missile, including the preliminary design review of its propulsion system, ensuring its compatibility with naval carriers. The work on HALO's development is being carried out in Tucson, Arizona, with expectations that the system will achieve operational capability by the late 2020s. As Capt. Richard Gensley, the US Navy Precision Strike Weapons Program Manager, highlighted at the contract award ceremony, "As threat capability continues to advance, additional range, warfare capability, and capacity are required to address the more demanding threat environment." HALO is part of the Navy’s Long Range Fires investment approach, aligning with the objectives of the National Defense Strategy where hypersonic weapons stand as a top priority.

Defense News , Sweden :- In a strategic move to bolster NATO's presence in Latvia, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has revealed plans to deploy 800 troops early next year. This initiative aims to fortify Latvia's borders against potential Russian threats, aligning Sweden with a Canada-led multinational force already stationed in the area, which includes troops from Albania, Italy, Poland, and Spain. As Stockholm awaits its imminent inclusion as NATO's 32nd member, only Turkey and Hungary remain to ratify its membership. The decision to abandon centuries-old military neutrality was prompted by Russia's occupation of Ukrainian territory, signaling Sweden's commitment to collective defense.Canada currently maintains the largest troop presence in Latvia, with 1,700 soldiers, and has pledged to increase this number to 2,200 by 2026. Furthermore, Canada plans to enhance its capabilities by deploying Griffon and Chinook helicopters and investing 15 million Canadian dollars ($11.2 million) in new military infrastructure.Sweden's NATO membership bid has encountered certain conditions, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan linking approval to Sweden's actions against militant Kurdish groups. In response, Sweden has agreed to extradite apprehended members and supporters of these groups, along with reinforcing anti-terrorism laws. Erdogan has indicated that Turkey's approval is contingent on the US greenlighting their requested purchase of F-16 fighter jets.Despite the ongoing approval process, Sweden remains committed to supporting NATO. Prime Minister Kristersson declared in 2023 the country's willingness to establish NATO bases within its borders, intending to send a "clear signal to Russia" and strengthen Sweden's overall defense capabilities. As these diplomatic and military efforts unfold, Sweden's evolving role within NATO signifies a proactive stance in addressing regional security challenges.

Defense News ,Israel :- In recent developments reported by Defence Industry Europe, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) face a pressing issue with the deployment of advanced anti-tank missiles along the Lebanese and Gaza frontlines. Hezbollah's recent attack on the Israeli Air Force (IAF) main radar station on Mount Meron in Northern Israel highlights the urgency of addressing this problem. The attack, executed using the longer-range version of the Kornet anti-tank missile known as Kornet-EM, exposed vulnerabilities in Israel's defense system. With a range of up to 10 km and utilizing a jam-resistant laser beam, these missiles pose a significant threat to both infantry soldiers and civilians. While IDF tanks and armored vehicles benefit from active protection systems against rockets and missiles, the same level of protection does not extend to infantry soldiers and civilians in proximity to the Lebanese and Gaza borders. Hezbollah and Hamas, both supported by Iran, employ the Russian-made Kornet anti-tank missile, among other weapon systems, targeting these unprotected individuals. The ongoing conflict has witnessed Hezbollah launching numerous missiles, causing injuries and fatalities among IDF soldiers. Despite the protection afforded to Israeli Merkava tanks and IDF's Namer and Eitan armored vehicles through active defense systems like Trophy by Rafael and Elbit Iron Fist, the vulnerability of soldiers and civilians near the borders remains a critical concern. In response to these challenges, Israeli experts have initiated efforts to develop soft or hard kill systems that can effectively protect vital military sites, such as the radar station on Meron Mountain, from long-range anti-tank missiles. The urgency to find a solution becomes evident as the IDF seeks ways to counter these threats, even exploring methods like armed UAVs to neutralize missile launchers. The attack on the main radar station underscores the need for swift and effective countermeasures to ensure the safety of both military personnel and civilians in the region. The ongoing efforts to develop advanced defense systems reflect the commitment to addressing this pressing issue and fortifying Israel's defense against evolving threats.
