Defense News ,India :-  India's aerospace sector is getting ready for something big as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) gets set to fly the new and improved LCA Tejas Mk-1A fighter jet for the first time. This exciting test flight might happen very soon, paving the way for the jet to be handed over to the Indian Air Force (IAF) by the end of March. The Tejas Mk-1A is a big leap forward in the IAF's plans to modernize its fleet. It's way better than the older Tejas Mk-1. The government ordered this upgraded version back in 2021 as part of a deal for 73 fighter jets. Once it's in service, it's expected to boost the IAF's ability to handle combat situations.HAL is also working on making a version of the Tejas Mk-1A that can hold two people instead of one. This is important because pilots need training to fly these jets, and the two-seater version will help with that. The IAF is really interested in the Tejas program. They're in talks to buy 97 more single-seater Tejas Mk-1A jets. If the deal goes through, it shows just how much the IAF values this aircraft and wants to make it a key part of their fleet.

Defense News ,North Korea :-    South Korea's defense minister, Shin Won-sik, revealed on Monday that North Korea has been sending about 7,000 containers loaded with weapons and military gear to Russia since last year. This move is seen as assistance to Russia's war efforts in Ukraine. Shin's statement came shortly after reports of North Korea firing multiple short-range ballistic missiles into its eastern waters, adding to tensions in the region.North Korea has been taking advantage of Russia's conflict in Ukraine to step up its weapons testing since the beginning of 2022. It has also formed an alliance with Moscow over the conflict, as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un seeks to break out of diplomatic isolation and unite against the United States.U.S. and South Korean officials accuse North Korea of providing Russia with artillery shells, missiles, and other equipment to aid its war in Ukraine. This alleged arms transfer intensified after a rare summit between Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin in September. In return for supplying Russia with weaponry, North Korea is believed to have received essential aid, including food, economic assistance, and military upgrades. Despite both Moscow and Pyongyang denying any arms deal, South Korean officials suspect Russia of providing fuel to North Korea, possibly in violation of U.N. Security Council sanctions.According to Shin, North Korea has shifted from using ships to using its rail networks to transport arms supplies to Russia through their land border. In exchange for millions of artillery shells and other supplies, North Korea received over 9,000 Russian containers filled with aid. There are concerns that Russia's aid might include fuel, which could breach U.N. sanctions. While fuel shortages previously limited North Korea's military training activities, recent assessments suggest that North Korea has expanded drills in January and February. These activities coincide with the end of South Korean-U.S. joint military exercises.Shin speculates that North Korea might escalate its testing before South Korea's parliamentary elections on April 10. This election is crucial for President Yoon Suk Yeol, who has adopted a tough stance on North Korea's nuclear ambitions and threats.Tensions between North and South Korea have heightened, with both countries violating a 2018 agreement to reduce border tensions. Kim Jong Un has declared the South as the North's most hostile adversary, indicating a shift from previous reconciliation efforts. While North Korea's recent missile tests appear aimed at enhancing its frontline forces, South Korean and U.S. militaries are also assessing whether some tests aim to validate weapons intended for Russia.North Korean state media reported Kim Jong Un congratulating Putin on his reelection and praising a luxury limousine gifted by Putin. This gesture underscores the strengthening ties between North Korea and Russia.

Space News ,Japan :- In a groundbreaking announcement in 2022, researchers from Kyoto University unveiled plans to pioneer the construction of interplanetary trains and a revolutionary artificial space habitat network, spanning from Earth to the Moon and Mars, in collaboration with Kajima Construction.Their visionary project, dubbed "The Glass," aims to create a livable environment in space that mirrors Earth's gravity, terrain, and atmosphere. The primary goal is to combat the detrimental effects of prolonged exposure to low-gravity and zero-gravity conditions on the human musculoskeletal system. At the heart of their proposal is the construction of "The Glass," a towering conical structure equipped with artificial gravity and amenities reminiscent of Earth, including public transportation, green spaces, and water features. Illustrations depict a rotating cylindrical structure adorned with rivers and park-like landscapes, providing a semblance of normalcy for human inhabitants.Central to their design is an inverted cone configuration that generates centrifugal force to simulate Earth's gravitational pull. The team aims to build a scaled-down prototype reaching approximately 1,300 feet in height and 328 feet in diameter by the year 2050, with plans for the final version to be completed and operational within a century, as reported by the Asahi Shimbun.Dubbed "Marsglass" for Mars and "Lunaglass" for the Moon, these habitats will rely on elements extracted from Earth's terrain and ecosystem to establish a sustainable living environment. The project encompasses a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating fields such as geology, biology, botany, physics, engineering, and climatology to create what they term a "core biome complex."In addition to habitat construction, the researchers envision an ambitious interplanetary transportation system known as the "Hexatrack," designed to maintain a constant gravitational force of 1G during long-distance travel. This system features hexagonal-shaped capsules, or "Hexacapsules," propelled by a central moving device. The capsules, varying in size, facilitate travel between Earth, the Moon, and Mars. Utilizing electromagnetic technology similar to that of Maglev trains, the capsules traverse designated tracks, ensuring stable and efficient transportation. Terra Station serves as the central hub on Earth, while the Space Express, consisting of six coaches on a standard gauge track, facilitates interplanetary travel. While some skeptics have dismissed these plans as reminiscent of science fiction, others acknowledge the potential for innovation and progress in space exploration. In light of China's advancements in electromagnetic rail gun technology for space propulsion, such ambitious projects may not be as far-fetched as initially perceived, though caution is warranted in assessing their feasibility.

However, the Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra rejected his plea, stating that the matter had been previously addressed. The court's decision comes after Michel's bail pleas were dismissed by the Delhi High Court in both the CBI and ED cases in 2021. The trial court also denied him bail, citing the serious nature of the accusations, the gravity of the offence, and the conduct of the accused. The CBI has alleged a loss of 398.21 million euros (about ₹2,666 crore) to the exchequer due to the deal signed in 2010 for the supply of 12 VVIP helicopters. The ED, in its charge sheet filed in 2016, claimed that Michel received 30 million euros (about ₹225 crore) from AgustaWestland. What is the AgustaWestland VVIP Chopper Scam? The AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam is a corruption case where it has been alleged that bribes were paid to “middlemen”, perhaps even politicians, when India agreed to buy 12 AgustaWestland helicopters built by Italian defence manufacturing giant Finmeccanica at an estimated cost of Rs 3,600 crore. In February 2010, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of the time signed a contract to purchase 12 AgustaWestland AW101 helicopters at Rs 3,600 crore. These helicopters were supposed to be used for ferrying the President of India, the Prime Minister, and other such very, very important people. The chopper scam came to the fore in 2012 when it was found that several politicians and bureaucrats allegedly accepted bribes to swing the deal. The scam was first uncovered in Italy. In February 2013, Bruno Spagnolini, the CEO of AgustaWestland, was arrested by Italian authorities on charges the company bribed middlemen to secure the deal with the Indian Air Force (IAF).The deal was cancelled in 2014 by the Congress-led government.Key players in the AgustaWestland deal and charges against themFormer Air Chief Marshal S P Tyagi: Tyagi was arrested on 9 December 2016 in connection with the case. The CBI has alleged that Tyagi played a role in recommending the reduction in operational ceiling of the helicopters from 6000 m to 4500 m which brought AgustaWestland in the race.It alleged that the IAF was strongly opposed to changes but when Tyagi became the chief, he recommended these.Christian Michel: Christian Michel is among the three middlemen (Guido Haschke and Carlos Gerosa were the other two) who were allegedly hired by AgustaWestland to swing the deal in the company’s favour by influencing officials.CBI has alleged that firms of Michel received about 42.27 million euros for the purpose. The bribes were allegedly routed through companies of Michel and advocate Gautam Khaitan in the form of multiple contracts through layered transactions to camouflage them.Michel, extradited to India from the UAE in 2018, has alleged that the CBI team wanted him to take names of the Gandhi family, a claim refuted by the agency. The AgustaWestland chopper scam, also known as the VVIP chopper scam, is a corruption case involving alleged bribes paid to middlemen and politicians to secure a deal for the purchase of 12 AgustaWestland helicopters by the Indian government. The scandal came to light in 2012 and led to the cancellation of the deal in 2014. Defense News ,Russia ,NATO :-  Russian President Vladimir Putin cautioned the Western powers about the possibility of a full-scale World War III if direct conflict arises between Russia and the NATO alliance, led by the US. He emphasized this point during a recent statement reported by TASS.Putin stressed that while such a conflict is feasible in the modern world, it would be perilously close to triggering a global war. He also remarked that it's improbable that anyone desires such a catastrophic outcome. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has strained relations between Moscow and the West to an extent not seen since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. Despite highlighting the dangers of nuclear warfare, Putin asserted that he has never considered deploying nuclear weapons in Ukraine.During a press conference after securing victory in the Russian presidential elections, Putin acknowledged the potential for future direct conflict between Russia and NATO. However, he expressed the belief that no party involved is actively seeking such a scenario. Before the recent Russian elections held from March 15 to 17, tensions escalated as Ukraine intensified its attacks against Russia. Putin revealed that Kyiv had deployed a significant number of soldiers to the border zone, estimating their presence at around 5,000 individuals.Additionally, Putin mentioned the involvement of the Russian Volunteer Corps, recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia, along with similar groups totaling approximately 2,500 individuals. He described them as being "thrown into assaults" like "meat," indicating significant casualties in recent attacks.Putin's victory in the presidential elections was accompanied by discussions surrounding a prisoner swap involving opposition leader Alexei Navalny. He expressed sadness over Navalny's sudden death in prison and referenced other instances of prisoners dying in custody, including in the United States.According to Putin, a proposal for exchanging Navalny for prisoners held in Western nations had been presented to him days before Navalny's demise in February.Navalny's death occurred on February 16, adding further complexity to the political landscape. Putin's electoral success saw him receive 87.17% of the votes, with the Communist Party of the Russian Federation candidate Nikolai Kharitonov securing the second position.Vladislav Davankov from the New People Party stood third with 4.8% of the votes, while Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) received only 3.15% of the votes. The presidential elections, held over three days from March 15 to 17, recorded a voter turnout of 74.22%, marking a significant engagement in the electoral process.

Defense News ,India :-  In a recent move, the Dutch government's decision to entrust France's Naval Group with a substantial submarine construction contract goes beyond the mere bolstering of the Netherlands' naval capabilities. The award of this contract carries broader implications, particularly for India's ongoing submarine modernization initiative, known as Project-76.Naval Group, a French company, is set to replace the aging Walrus-class submarines of the Netherlands with four state-of-the-art Barracuda-class vessels. This victory marks a significant rebound for Naval Group, following the setback of the cancellation of a lucrative Australian submarine contract in 2021.For India, whose Navy is closely monitoring developments, this deal holds crucial importance. India's Project-76 aims at the development and construction of a new fleet of submarines, making Naval Group's expertise and technology offerings particularly relevant. One key area of interest for India is pump-jet propulsion technology, known for its advantages over conventional propellers in submarines. Pump-jets enable quieter operation and enhanced maneuverability, essential for maintaining underwater stealth and gaining tactical superiority. However, despite recognizing the benefits, the Indian Navy grapples with concerns regarding the potential high cost associated with pump-jet propulsion. Naval Group's existing pump-jet systems are predominantly utilized in their nuclear-powered submarines, leading to elevated production expenses when adapting the technology for conventionally powered vessels. The Dutch submarine contract alters this dynamic. With Naval Group now committed to producing a larger volume of pump-jets for the Dutch submarines, there arises the possibility of more cost-effective production. This presents an opportunity for India to negotiate favorable terms, leveraging the increased production scale to obtain this crucial technology at a more reasonable price point. As India navigates potential collaborations with Naval Group, the Dutch submarine deal is poised to expedite India's access to advanced French submarine technology. The focus on achieving cost-effective integration of pump-jet propulsion systems is likely to dominate future negotiations, reflecting the strategic importance of this technology for India's naval capabilities.

The Taliban issued a fervent condemnation on Monday (Mar 18) against the air strikes conducted by Pakistan, alleging that these attacks within Afghanistan resulted in the deaths of innocent women and children. Asserting Afghanistan's unwavering stance on security, the Taliban emphasized its stance against any compromise of Afghan territory for external interests.Describing the air strikes as a "reckless action" and a direct violation of Afghanistan's sovereignty, the Taliban conveyed through its spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, that the security forces of the Taliban retaliated by targeting Pakistani troops stationed at the border.According to the statement released by Mujahid, the Pakistani airstrikes targeted civilian residences, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives, including three women and three children. Additionally, the collapse of a house in the Khost province claimed the lives of two women.Pakistan's government purportedly aimed these strikes at the hideouts of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). However, the specifics of these operations remained undisclosed. The Pakistani foreign office justified these actions as intelligence-based anti-terrorist operations within the border regions of Afghanistan.Despite Pakistan's assertions, the Taliban contested that the strikes targeted individuals who were not present in Afghanistan, such as Abdullah Shah, a commander of the TTP. The Taliban spokesperson rebuked Pakistan, urging it not to attribute its internal challenges to Afghanistan. The Taliban's statement cautioned Pakistan against the potential repercussions of its actions, emphasizing the danger of escalating tensions beyond Pakistan's control. Earlier, the Taliban had decried Pakistan's intrusion into Afghan territory, alleging bombings of civilian homes in districts such as Paktika's Burmal and Khost Sepera.Responding to what they perceived as aggression, the Taliban's border forces reportedly engaged Pakistani military installations with heavy weaponry. The statement underscored Afghanistan's readiness to defend its territorial integrity against any aggressive incursions. The recent spike in militant attacks in Pakistan has sparked a blame game between Islamabad and Kabul. While Pakistan attributes these attacks to militants operating from Afghan soil, Kabul refutes these claims. This escalation underscores the deep-seated tensions between the two neighboring nations, rooted in issues of sovereignty and cross-border security.

Defense News ,Germany :- A recent report from German intelligence has raised serious concerns about Russia's intentions towards NATO member states by the year 2026. This classified document, disclosed to Business Insider, highlights Moscow's increasing military activities, suggesting a potential for a major conflict beyond the current Ukraine crisis. The report points to several key factors that have led to these alarming conclusions. One significant aspect is the reorganization of the Russian Army, accompanied by constant troop movements and missile deployments in the western regions of Russia. These actions indicate a preparation for a significant confrontation.Furthermore, the report highlights the ongoing expansion of Russia's arms production, which could potentially double its military strength over the next five years, particularly in conventional weapons. This buildup raises concerns about Russia's capability to initiate aggression against NATO member states. The report emphasizes that the possibility of a Russian attack on NATO can no longer be dismissed, citing potential targets such as the Baltic states or Finland. Such an attack could have severe consequences for regional stability and international security.Adding to the concerns, Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement in June 2023 about the deployment of nuclear arms to Belarus has heightened fears of a broader conflict extending beyond Ukraine. However, there are conflicting reports regarding the likelihood of a Russian attack on a NATO member state. While the leaked German military document raises alarms about such a scenario, NATO itself has downplayed these concerns. The alliance acknowledges Russia's growing military capabilities but does not necessarily believe they will result in an all-out war.Similarly, US intelligence services have dismissed speculations of a Russian attack on NATO in the near future. They argue that Moscow would require five to eight years to rebuild its military strength following significant losses incurred in the Ukraine conflict.Despite these reassurances, NATO remains vigilant and continues to invest in enhancing its defense capabilities. This includes substantial orders of artillery shells, signaling the alliance's commitment to deter any potential aggression.

Japan's coast guard confirmed the launch and reported that the missile seemed to be ballistic and had landed.Japan later announced a second ballistic missile launch by North Korea, both landing outside Japan's economic zone area. This missile display came soon after South Korea and the United States wrapped up large-scale annual joint military exercises.South Korea reacted by mobilizing its military forces, including marines, attack helicopters, and amphibious assault vehicles. They conducted drills to strengthen defense around western islands near North Korea, an area previously attacked by North Korea in 2010.What Does It Mean?North Korea's missile launches occurred during the Summit of Democracy conference in Seoul. Defense News ,India :-  The Chinese military recently repeated its belief that Arunachal Pradesh belongs to China. They say it's a part of their country, despite India saying otherwise. This happened after India refused to listen to China's objections to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Arunachal Pradesh.A spokesperson from the Chinese Defence Ministry, Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, stated that the southern part of Tibet, which they call Xizang, is definitely China's. He also said that China doesn't accept and strongly opposes what they call the "so-called Arunachal Pradesh," which India created. This was reported by official Chinese media.Zhang said this in response to India improving its military readiness through the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of South Tibet and regularly protests when Indian leaders visit the state to emphasize India's ownership.China even renamed the area as Zangnan. However, India has always rejected China's claims over Arunachal Pradesh, saying it's an essential part of India. India has also disregarded China's attempt to give "made-up" names to the area, stating that it doesn't change the facts. On March 9, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Sela Tunnel, situated at 13,000 feet altitude in Arunachal Pradesh. This tunnel will provide year-round connectivity to Tawang and will help in better troop movement in the frontier region. It's considered the longest two-lane tunnel at such a height, costing Rs 825 crore. Indian military officials believe it will help in moving troops and equipment to various locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.Zhang didn't directly mention Modi's visit but stated that India's actions contradict efforts to ease border tensions and don't help in maintaining peace in the border areas. He mentioned that the current situation at the border is generally stable, with both countries having effective diplomatic and military communication regarding border issues.Zhang urged India to stop actions that make the border issue more complicated and to work towards maintaining peace and stability in the area. He emphasized that the Chinese military is highly alert in protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity. This reaction from Zhang followed a statement from China's foreign ministry spokesperson on Monday, who mentioned lodging a diplomatic protest with India over Modi's visit to Arunachal Pradesh.India strongly rejected China's objection, stating that Arunachal Pradesh has always been and will always be an integral part of India. India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said that China has been repeatedly informed about India's consistent stance on this matter. Jaiswal mentioned that China's objection to visits like Modi's won't change the reality that Arunachal Pradesh is part of India.Jaiswal also pointed out that Indian leaders visit Arunachal Pradesh just like they visit other states of India. Objecting to such visits or India's development projects in the region doesn't make sense. He reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is and always will be a fundamental part of India.

Defense News ,Pakistan :- In a recent speech at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Baloch rights activist Hakeem Baloch emphasized the urgent need for the UN to acknowledge the legitimate desires of the Balochistan people for self-determination. He highlighted the severe injustices faced by the Baloch people under the Pakistani government.Balochistan, a region annexed by Pakistan in 1948, has been a hotbed of oppression, exploitation, and denial of basic rights for over seventy years. Hakeem Baloch pointed out the systematic mistreatment endured by the Baloch people, including political marginalization, economic exploitation, and suppression of their culture. He went further to accuse Pakistan of committing serious crimes such as genocide in the region.According to Baloch, the Baloch people have been peacefully advocating for independence from Pakistan, exercising their right to self-determination as stated in the UN Charter. However, instead of listening to their pleas, the Baloch people have faced violence, intimidation, and repression from the Pakistani authorities. Moreover, Baloch raised concerns about the Pakistani government's actions, including the banning of political parties in Balochistan and denying the Baloch people their right to assemble peacefully. He highlighted the plight of organizations like the Baloch National Movement and the Baloch National Student Organization Azad, which have been outlawed, restricting the Baloch people's ability to voice their concerns. The situation in Balochistan is dire, with enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and arbitrary arrests becoming commonplace. Baloch emphasized the urgent need for the international community to intervene and address the calls of the Baloch people to secure their future. As the Pakistani state continues its efforts to silence dissent and crush Baloch resistance, Baloch urged the UN to step in and ensure that the people of Balochistan have the opportunity to decide their own future. He called upon the international community to listen to the voices of the Baloch people and take decisive action to bring an end to their suffering.
