Defense News ,Pakistan :- Pakistan's recent announcement regarding its intention to procure Chinese fifth-generation FC-31 Gyrfalcon stealth fighter aircraft has set off alarms in India, prompting analysts to suggest an acceleration in India's air force modernization efforts. Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber's revelation of Pakistan's plans has raised concerns in India about maintaining tactical air superiority along its borders. Analysts speculate that Pakistan may receive up to 36 FC-31 jets by the end of the decade, posing a significant challenge to India's defense strategy.Mustafa Hyder, from the Pakistan-China Institute, views this move as a demonstration of the deepening military cooperation between Pakistan and China, aimed at countering their common adversary, India. The potential acquisition of the FC-31 Gyrfalcon underscores the joint strategy of both countries to address security threats emanating from India. In response, India is facing pressure to expedite its acquisition of American F-35 aircraft or accelerate its Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft program to develop its own stealth combat aircraft by 2032. Harsh V. Pant, a professor at King's College London, suggests that the deal between Pakistan and China compels India to reassess its defense procurement strategies to maintain its competitive edge in the region. The FC-31 Gyrfalcon, also known as J-31 or J-35, signifies China's advancement in stealth technology. While the official designation is pending, prototypes are being developed by the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, with expectations of deployment in the Chinese navy within the next five years. This development adds complexity to the regional military balance, particularly in light of India's ongoing conflicts with both China and Pakistan over disputed borders. The potential deployment of a fifth-generation stealth fighter by Pakistan presents a formidable challenge for India, given its absence in the current Indian Air Force arsenal. This acquisition would afford Pakistan a tactical advantage, particularly in air-to-air combat scenarios, according to Frank O'Donnell, a senior research adviser. Moreover, Pakistan's close military ties with China facilitate a more streamlined procurement process compared to India's bureaucratic challenges. For India to effectively counter these developments, it must address longstanding issues such as declining squadron strength and delays in the acquisition of foreign and domestic warplanes. Overcoming these challenges is crucial to ensuring India's ability to keep pace with regional adversaries and maintain its strategic interests in South Asia.Despite the addition of 36 Rafale 4.5-generation warplanes from France's Dassault Aviation in the past two years, India's Air Force (IAF) finds itself grappling with a modernization gap, leaving it with 30 to 32 squadrons against the intended strength of 42. Analysts note that the ageing out of the existing fleet has outpaced the IAF's progress in acquiring new aircraft. The shortfall in warplane numbers, crucial for countering threats from China and Pakistan, amounts to approximately 200 aircraft, a gap projected to be only halved by the mid-2030s.India is on the verge of announcing the acquisition of an additional 26 Rafale planes, expected to be deployed on its aircraft carrier. However, addressing this shortage requires a significant political commitment to streamline the defense acquisition process and overcome bureaucratic hurdles, a commitment that has not been adequately demonstrated so far.In response to India's Rafale acquisitions, Pakistan has ordered 25 Chengdu J-10C "Vigorous Dragon" aircraft, emphasizing the escalating regional competition. This move is seen as part of a broader strategy by China to counter India's growing political and defense partnerships with the United States. The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, including Japan and Australia, has bolstered India's position as a counterweight to China in Asia, departing from its traditional non-aligned foreign policy.Despite Pakistan's forthcoming acquisition of Chinese stealth warplanes, specifically the FC-31 Gyrfalcon, India appears less alarmed, considering the aircraft is still in the developmental stage. Analysts, including Harsh V. Pant of King's College London, suggest that this deal may benefit China more than Pakistan in the long term, given the lag in the FC-31's development.India's necessity to address its aging fleet led to the Rafale acquisitions, while Pakistan, realizing challenges in its long-term relationship with the U.S., sought advanced Chinese fighter aircraft. The China-Pakistan military relationship has strengthened through joint production projects like the JF-17 "Thunder" fighters, guided-missile frigates, and diesel-electric submarines. The potential J-31 deal further indicates the enduring nature of the China-Pakistan military alliance, with the U.S. likely unsurprised by this development.

Technology News ,India :- In a landmark decision a few months ago, India's drug regulatory authority, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), granted approval for the commercial application of CAR-T cell therapy. This groundbreaking therapy involves genetically reprogramming a patient's immune system to combat cancer.Recent reports from the Indian Express highlight the remarkable success of this therapy, particularly in the case of Dr (Col) V K Gupta, a highly experienced gastroenterologist based in Delhi with 28 years of service in the Indian Army.Dr. Gupta accessed the therapy at the Tata Memorial Hospital by paying just INR 42 lakh or $50,000, a fraction of the cost compared to the INR 4 crore or $480,000 for a similar treatment abroad. The doctors at Tata Memorial Hospital, where the procedure took place, confirmed that Dr. Gupta is currently "free of cancer cells," marking him as the first patient to achieve this status, a dream unimaginable just a year ago.The doctor overseeing Gupta's therapy, Dr. Hasmukh Jain, a hemato-oncologist and associate professor at the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Tata Memorial Centre, stated, "While it's premature to claim a lifelong cure, the patient is currently free of cancer cells."Despite this promising outcome, Dr. Jain emphasized that it is still too early to determine the overall success rate of the therapy. Initial findings, however, suggest "better survival chances and lower remission rates" for patients in the early stages of cancer. The CDSCO granted approval for the commercial use of CAR-T cell therapy in October 2023, and today, it is available in over 30 hospitals across more than 10 cities in India. Eligible patients, aged above 15 and suffering from B-cell cancers, can now access this revolutionary treatment, offering hope for a brighter future in the fight against cancer.

Defense News ,India :- In a recent report by Kathimerini, it was revealed that the Greek Air Force is exploring the prospect of selling its decommissioned Mirage fighters to India. Both the Defence Ministry and the prime minister’s office are reportedly aware of this suggestion. The two nations, Greece and India, are nearing the finalization of a deal on these jets, which were retired in 2022. There is speculation that the sale might be discussed during Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' visit to New Delhi later this month. The report suggests that the Greek Air Force has modest expectations for the sale price, estimating a few million euros per jet at best, given their derelict condition. Despite the economic outlook, the decision to sell the Mirages is anticipated to yield more political benefits.Previously operated by the 332 Squadron 'Hawks' of the HAF 114 Combat Wing at Tanagra Air Base near Athens, the 18 Mirage 2000 aircraft were officially retired in January 2022 with the introduction of the newer Dassault Rafale fighters. India, with approximately 44 Mirage 2000H/I in its fleet, has expressed interest in acquiring these decommissioned jets, even though they may not all be airworthy. It is likely that India would utilize them for spare parts. The Mirage 2000 fleet faced challenges during its operational tenure, leading to grounding due to a lack of logistical support before the procurement of new French fighters. Most of these fighters have been left abandoned at Tanagra Air Base in Boeotia, with some cannibalized for parts, making their flightworthiness doubtful.Notwithstanding the condition of the Mirages, India remains one of the operators of these legendary French fighters, maintaining approximately 50 aircraft across three fighter squadrons. India's interest in acquiring used Mirage 2000s was announced just before the expiry of 2023, with the intention of keeping its squadrons operational for another decade. The article also touches upon India's Mirage 2000 fleet, purchased in the late 1980s, and the subsequent Mirage 2000 upgrade program initiated 25 years after procurement. The ongoing upgrade includes a full glass cockpit, helmet-mounted sight, Mica air-to-air missiles, enhanced networking capabilities, a new MSA radar, integrated electronic warfare capabilities, and undisclosed features kept confidential by the Indian Air Force. The upgrades aim to bring these Mirage fighters to 21st-century standards to effectively counter contemporary threats. In light of these developments, Greece looks forward to strengthening its defensive ties with India, emphasizing that the decision to sell the decommissioned Mirages is expected to have more political significance than economic impact.

The MiG-21 will be a valuable tool for courses like the Technical Staff Officers Course (TSOC), Naval Technical Staff Course (NTSC), and Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC) at MILIT.By using a real aircraft, the MiG-21 will provide hands-on learning for MILIT students. This experience will help them understand the aircraft's systems, maintenance procedures, and how it operates, improving their technical skills. The IAF's donation not only gives a retired aircraft a new purpose but also helps train future technical experts for the armed forces. This collaboration between the IAF and MILIT shows their shared dedication to excellence and innovation in military training.

These systems are vital for protecting both rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft in challenging combat situations.CMWS is a proven system that combines missile warning, hostile fire indication, and countermeasure controls. It helps the U.S. and its allies detect and defend against advanced threats on the battlefield, ensuring the safety of aircraft and their crews.Jennifer Bartley, deputy product line director at BAE Systems, highlighted the importance of CMWS in contested battlefields.
