Defense News , India :- In a big move to stop Pakistan's attempts to increase terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army is starting Operation Sarvashakti. This operation will focus on targeting terrorists in the Union Territory, specifically on both sides of the Pir Panjal mountain ranges.Lately, terrorist groups from Pakistan have been trying to bring back terrorism in the southern part of the Pir Panjal ranges, especially in the Rajouri Poonch sector. About 20 soldiers have lost their lives in terrorist attacks in this area, with the latest attack occurring on December 21, where four soldiers were killed in the Dera ki Gali area.Under Operation Sarvashakti, the Indian Army plans to conduct joint counter-terrorism operations from both sides of the Pir Panjal ranges. The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps and the Nagrota-headquartered White Knight Corps will simultaneously carry out these operations. The Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, Special Operations Group, and intelligence agencies will work closely together to prevent Pakistan from reviving terrorist activities in the Union Territory, especially in the Rajouri Poonch sector.The operations are expected to follow the model of Operation Sarpvinash, launched in 2003 to eliminate terrorists from the same areas in the south of the Pir Panjal range.Army Chief General Manoj Pande mentioned that terrorist activities had nearly disappeared in the area since 2003. However, the threat has resurfaced, and the Indian Army, along with the Northern Command, is taking measures to tackle it. This comes after North Korea revealed a new truck-mounted missile system resembling the KN-24 close-range ballistic missile.According to Minister Shin, this missile system has an estimated range of 100 to 180 kilometers and could even carry a tactical nuclear warhead. North Korea has stated its intention to deploy these missiles with its front-line troops.Minister Shin suggests that, considering recent arms trade activities, North Korea might sell these ballistic missiles to Russia. He points to past instances of North Korean missile sales to Russia as evidence.The KN-24 short-range missile, similar to the MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System, was first tested in 2019. It has a unitary warhead weighing between 400 to 500 kilograms and follows a quasi-ballistic trajectory.Earlier this month, the White House reported Russia's deployment of North Korean ballistic missiles in Ukraine, indicating a range of 900 kilometers. These missiles resemble the KN-23 and KN-25 short-range ballistic missiles based on their graphic and range.Minister Shin raises the possibility that Russia may have provided technological assistance to North Korea in exchange for arms and ammunition. He mentions that North Korea's spy satellite, launched in November, is considered rudimentary, but with continued technological support from Russia, its capabilities could improve.It is noted that North Korea has already shipped an estimated 5,000 containers of weapons to Russia. A total of 123 Barracudas are in the process of being built, with 63 allocated for contractor trials and 65 for trials conducted by the US Navy, as reported by Seapower.This Sea Mine-Assassin operates as an expendable, semi-autonomous unmanned vehicle. It is equipped with a kill mechanism, propulsion systems, sensors, and a communications buoy. Using the AN/AQS-20C sonar mine countermeasures mission system, the Barracuda can identify a suspected mine and propel itself using four water jets. The system then receives GPS coordinates through a tethered acoustic communication data link.With its mounted camera and sonar on the nose, the Barracuda allows human operators to confirm targets, enhancing its efficiency in mine detection and elimination. The completion of the technical data package brings Raytheon one step closer to the successful deployment of this advanced underwater mine hunter.
