This comes just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Gujarat on Thursday, where he will dedicate two 700 MW PHWRs at the Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) to the nation.The KAPS-3 reactor has already been synchronized with the grid, and KAPS-4 is expected to be connected soon, as per an anonymous official. These two reactors will provide power to states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.The first 700 MW PHWR (KAPS-3), which began commercial operations in July last year, has generated 3,182 million units up to January 2024, operating at a capacity factor of 88%, as stated by NPCIL.Prime Minister Modi will dedicate these two units, constructed at a cost of over Rs. 22,500 crore, as part of NPCIL's initiative to set up 16 PHWRs in the country. Additionally, two more 700 MW PHWRs are under construction at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS), along with the existing units at RAPS.Currently, NPCIL operates 23 reactors with a total capacity of 7,480 MW, and eight units with a capacity of 6,800 MW are under construction. Furthermore, 10 additional reactors with a total capacity of 7,000 MW are in the pre-project stage, anticipated to be completed progressively by 2031-32, according to NPCIL's projections. These include units at Rajasthan Atomic Power Project, Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, and Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana.

This move is aimed at strengthening Italy's ability to face current and future threats by providing modern and capable air-to-air munitions.Simultaneously, Italy is set to receive 125 Small Diameter Bombs (SDB) – Increment II as part of a proposed $150 million agreement. This includes exporting olive oil, olives, wine, cheese, fruits, fruit juice, consumer goods, construction materials, and aluminum products to India," said Sanjeev Agrawal.Significant investments in Greece have been made by several Indian conglomerates, and it is projected that these investments will serve as a catalyst for further growth in the coming year. They also committed to maintain peace and tranquility on the ground in the border areas in the interim," statement added.Earlier, held the 20th round of Corps Commander-level talks at Chushul as part of the ongoing efforts for overall disengagement and de-escalation to resolve the stand-off in eastern Ladakh.The meeting was held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side on October 9-10.Earlier last month, India, while reiterating its long-standing position on China, said the two countries continue to engage on the diplomatic and military sides for some sort of a resolution."India's position on China is very well known. It is a relationship, which is not normal, but we have had dialogues both on the military side and on the diplomatic side in October and November. The campaign has sharpened after Sheikh Hasina, who is seen to be close to India, won a record fourth term in the recently concluded national elections. S U M Abdus Samad, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Islami Front on Tuesday hit out at the online campaign especially saying it was driven by hard-line elements who spread hate and misinformation.The Islami front is a small independent party which had put up 37 candidates in the recently concluded polls. In an interview to ANI during his visit to New Delhi, Abdus Samad said cordial ties are crucial for both the neighbouring countries as he highlighted the increased connectivity in recent years. “There is misinformation there since the beginning that India brought a lot of stuff from Bangladesh in 1971 and also did brutal acts. This kind of misinformation is there.So it is a must for India to show that we are not against Bangladesh, but we are friends”, said Samad. In Bangladesh, an “India Out” campaign has sparked off on social media. Led by medical professional Pinaki Bhattacharya, who describes himself as an exiled blogger, online activist and human rights defender, the campaign called for the boycott of Indian goods following the results of the elections. Bhattacharya’s social media followers, which number about 53000 on X and 6000 on Instagram, claim that the movement is fuelled by the Indian government’s unilateral support for Sheikh Hasina’s administration in Bangladesh. The bloggers allege that the elections in Bangladesh were neither free nor fair.Bloggers running this campaign have been using three hashtags: #Indiaout #BoycottIndia and #BoycottIndianproducts. A report by Digital Forensics and Research and Analytics Centre reveals that the trend of boycotts on social media does not appear natural. “A closer examination of this trend reveals that the group that began this campaign has always been engaged in anti-India activities in Bangladesh. Several users among them, are either indirectly associated with the political parties of Bangladesh (mainly BNP), or claim to be their supporters”, said the DFRAC report.D-FRAC is a non-partisan and independent media organisation which focuses on fact-checking and identifying hate speech. S U M Abdus Samad reiterated that this was just misinformation being spread, and that Bangladesh has been witnessing rapid growth and development for several years under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Abdus Samad praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and said, “Since the Sheikh Hasina government came into power, there has been a growth in Bangladesh’s development. In 10-20 years, the development in Dhaka, Chittagong which we see now – if one knows about the suffering before – seeing it presently, it won’t be recognizable now”.The Secretary General of the Bangladesh Islami Front also stressed on the continuous improvement in people to people contact and connectivity between India and Bangladesh. “There is now train connectivity from Akhaura… Akhaura- Brahmanbaria. Trade is also happening from river fronts to Assam and Tripura. The connectivity has increased. Items are also being exported and imported to Chittagong port. There is connectivity in Ramgarh as well”, said S U M Abdus Samad. When asked about terrorism and religious fundamentalism in South Asia and Pakistan’s role, Samad emphasized the need for an establishment in Islamabad that does not let terrorism flourish. “Pakistan has no impact in South Asia as such.But there should be a good government there to curb terrorism. There should be a government in Pakistan, which does not let terrorism flourish in South Asia”. He condemned terrorism and religious fundamentalism and said, “Terrorism is against Islam. Killing an innocent has no place in Islam. We are against terrorism. Someone who is a terrorist, cannot be a good Muslim”. The message from the Islami Front leader is clear, the so called ‘India-Out’ campaign appears is confined to a small group online with support of Pro Pakistan political parties like the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist party and smaller radical parties. The extensive study, titled "A Multi-Wavelength Spectral Study of MAXI J1820+070 in the Soft and Hard States," has been accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal. This research provides unique insights into the behavior of the transient black hole X-ray binary during its 2018 outburst, led by researchers from IUCAA, Pune, along with contributors from India, the United Kingdom, Abu Dhabi, and Poland.Positioned approximately 9800 light-years away from Earth, MAXI J1820+070 is a transient black hole X-ray binary that gained significant attention within the astronomy community when first detected during its 2018 outburst using the MAXI instrument aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Due to its proximity to Earth and remarkable brightness, ranking as the second brightest object in the X-ray sky, MAXI J1820+070 sparked numerous observing campaigns across various electromagnetic bands.Equipped with three X-ray payloads and a UV telescope, AstroSat captured soft and hard X-ray emissions as well as far ultraviolet radiation, creating a detailed portrait of the regions surrounding the black hole in MAXI J1820+070. By collaborating with optical data from Las Cumbres Observatory and soft X-ray data from NASA's NICER mission, the research team gained a comprehensive understanding of the system's dynamics.The study divulges intriguing findings about the accretion states of MAXI J1820+070. Black hole X-ray binaries, including MAXI J1820+070, often exhibit multiple accretion states throughout an outburst. The study reveals distinctions between the hard and soft states, characterized by the emission of predominantly higher-energy X-rays from the corona surrounding the black hole in the hard state, and softer X-rays emitted by the accretion disk itself in the soft state. The research, utilizing advanced techniques, also unveiled the black hole's spin, providing insights into its fundamental properties.Additionally, the study establishes a compelling connection between X-ray emission from the inner regions near the black hole and optical/UV emission from the outer region of the accretion disk. Reprocessed radiation in the outer accretion disk emerges as a primary mechanism for generating optical/UV photons, with a notably higher proportion observed during the hard state.This research extends beyond the specific case of MAXI J1820+070, emphasizing the crucial role of AstroSat in advancing the understanding of transient black hole X-ray binaries. With its unique multi-wavelength capabilities, AstroSat paves the way for further exploration of diverse astrophysical phenomena, laying the groundwork for future endeavors in the field.The significance of this study is underscored by its highlighting of the importance of acquiring multi-wavelength spectroscopic data for X-ray binaries, providing novel insights into the intricate workings of these cosmic phenomena.The accompanying schematic diagram illustrates the geometries associated with the hard state (upper panel) and soft state (lower panel) of MAXI J1820+070, as deduced in this study. Defense News ,Ukraine War :- A group that tracks weapons, called Conflict Armament Research (CAR), shared news on Tuesday that parts from companies in the United States and Europe were found in a North Korean missile discovered in Ukraine.The report from CAR shows that North Korea is getting parts for its weapons from Western countries, even though there are strict rules against this. These weapons are being used by Russia in its fight against Ukraine.CAR's team found out that the missile from North Korea, which was found in Ukraine, had over 290 parts made outside of North Korea. They shared this information on Twitter. They found that 75% of these parts came from companies in the United States, and 16% from companies in Europe.CAR also noted that half of the parts had dates showing when they were made, and most of these dates were between 2021 and 2023. This means the missile was put together not before March 2023.The White House had said earlier in January that North Korea gave Russia missiles and equipment to launch them, which were then used to attack Ukraine.CAR mentioned that the missile they looked into was found in a place called Kharkiv in Ukraine on January 2, 2024.

Defense News ,India :- In a significant development for India's transportation and railway infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country's longest transportation tunnel as part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. This historic event, held on a Tuesday, also marked the launch of the first electrified trains in the Kashmir valley, heralding a new era of connectivity and progress for the region.The inauguration was conducted through a virtual event by Prime Minister Modi from Jammu, where he flagged off two electrified trains. One train journeyed from Srinagar to Sangaldan in the downward direction, and the other from Sangaldan to Srinagar in the upward direction, with over 100 school children and their teachers onboard as special guests for this inaugural trip, symbolizing the bright future this project promises for the coming generations.During this event, the Prime Minister also officially opened the 48.1-km-long Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan section, which features the T-50 tunnel. Stretching over 12.77 km, the T-50 tunnel is not only the longest in this section but also represents the most challenging engineering feat among the 11 tunnels that comprise the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangadal corridor. The operationalization of this tunnel is a culmination of years of meticulous planning and hard work. The initial survey work for the tunnel began around 1996, but it wasn't until December 2013 that the tender was finally awarded, leading to about a decade of efforts to bring this project to fruition. The Northern Railway officials highlighted that with the opening of this section, trains can now traverse from Baramulla to Sangaldan via Banihal, thus extending the rail network significantly.Safety has been a paramount concern in the design and construction of the T-50 tunnel. In addition to the main tunnel, an escape tunnel runs parallel to it, ensuring a safe evacuation route for passengers in emergencies. This escape tunnel is connected to the main tunnel at intervals of every 375 meters, allowing for quick and efficient rescue operations. Moreover, comprehensive fire safety measures have been implemented, including water pipes along both sides of the tunnel, capable of dousing flames efficiently in the event of a fire.The extension of the railway line to Sangaldan and the electrification of the trains from Baramulla to Banihal, now extended to Sangaldan, mark significant milestones. This development not only enhances the connectivity within the Kashmir valley but also moves the country a step closer to realizing the dream of a seamless railway link from the northern reaches of Kashmir to the southern tip of India in Kanyakumari.The project's journey began with the operationalization of the Quazigund-Baramulla section in 2009 by the then Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. This was followed by the opening of the Banihal-Quazigund section in July 2013, which included the T-80 Pir Panjal tunnel spanning 11.2 km. As the USBRL project progresses towards completion, passengers will soon witness the marvels of modern engineering, including the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab and the Anji bridge, Indian Railways' first cable-stayed bridge. Spanning a total length of 272 km and costing ₹41,119 crore, the USBRL project stands as a testament to India's commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and connectivity, bringing together diverse regions of the country and fostering growth and development.The inauguration of the longest transportation tunnel and the launch of electrified trains in Kashmir by Prime Minister Modi is not just a leap forward in the nation's railway expansion but also a symbol of technological advancement and unity, promising a brighter, more connected future for India.

Defense News ,Poland :- In Poznan, Poland, there's now a special place just for fixing and taking care of Abrams tanks, which are very powerful battle vehicles. This place was set up inside the Military Automotive Works, part of PGZ, a big company owned by the Polish government that deals with defense stuff.The idea to create this service spot came from both the Polish Military Automotive Works and General Dynamics Land Systems from America, the company that makes these tanks. They started planning this in June last year when they agreed to work together to make sure the Abrams tanks used by Poland's army could be well maintained and serviced.This new service center is pretty important because it can do all sorts of maintenance and repairs on the Abrams tanks that Poland's army uses. Not only that, but it can also help out the U.S. Army's tanks that are in Poland and other places in Europe.Poland is really beefing up its military because, in 2022, it made a deal with the United States to buy 250 of the very latest Abrams tanks by the end of 2026. And they didn't stop there; in 2023, Poland decided to buy another 116 of these tanks. So, having a place to take care of all these tanks is super important.
