The goal is to avoid detection by the Indian army or BSF, which guard the borders with Pakistan.The responsibility for boosting telecom signals has been given to the Special Communication Organization (SCO), led by Pakistani army officer Maj Gen Umar Ahmad Shah, believed to have formerly worked with Pakistan's spy agency ISI.The strategic placement of telecom towers near the LoC and the international border, designed to aid terrorists in infiltration activities, violates Article 45 of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) constitution, a body under the United Nations.Article 45 requires all 193-member countries to take steps to prevent the transmission or circulation of identification signals and to collaborate in locating and identifying stations transmitting such signals.The matter is being discussed at the ministerial level for international intervention, the officials said.The new telecom towers operate on Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology, with encryption done by a Chinese firm mainly for YSMS operations. However, their signals extend into the Jammu plains, reaching sensitive places like the Kot Balwal jail area.Conventional measures such as jammers and managed access systems have fallen short, prompting the development of advanced detection capabilities aimed at locating and neutralizing active phones within defined areas.Security agencies plan to test new technology nationwide, particularly in prisons, to combat security threats effectively.The smuggling of cell phones into prisons poses a significant public safety hazard, enabling criminals to orchestrate terror activities from within the confines of a prison.This comes after several security agencies indicated that telecom signals from PoK have been penetrating into Indian territories, affecting regions from Baramulla and Kupwara in Kashmir to Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch Districts in the Jammu division.Particular concern arises from the communication between terrorists on Indian soil and their handlers in Pakistan, facilitated by various technologies like LoRa, YSMS, Baidu, and Thuraya Satellite Communication. Inspired by the success of the GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS mission, which launched one of the heaviest payloads into GTO, ISRO is now targeting greater heights by launching satellites with a ten-tonne capacity.The project report for the development of this next-generation rocket is ready, and ISRO is seeking government funds to enhance its capabilities in the competitive space sector. According to ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, the team has submitted the project report along with estimated costs, and the next step involves approaching the government for funds and establishing mechanisms for development, including private industry participation.The new rocket design is in progress and will be partially reusable, with a capacity of about 10 tonnes into GTO. Currently, ISRO's heaviest rocket, LVM3 (formerly GSLV-MkIII), can carry satellites up to four tonnes. The next-gen rocket will naturally be heavier to accommodate higher payloads.Mr. Somanath also provided updates on India's first manned mission, Gaganyaan, scheduled for 2025. Two more abort missions are planned this year following the success of the first unmanned flight test (TV-D1) last year, demonstrating the crew escape system. Various tests and activities are set for 2024 to realize the manned space mission in 2025.Additionally, ISRO is planning its next moon mission, Chandrayaan-4, with the goal of achieving something unprecedented—possibly bringing a lunar sample back using a robot. Compounds showing promising results were identified and further refined, enabling prolonged auxin release within plant cells. This significantly increased rooting percentages in various plant species.The findings were recently published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Biotechnology.To understand the enhancement's mechanisms, the researchers studied the mode of action of the new compounds using model plants. They discovered that the synthetic auxin in the compounds exhibited greater stability within plant cells. The researchers also identified a family of enzymes responsible for its release, paving the way for broader applications across different plant species.Research student Ohad Roth explained, "We identified compounds with a positive effect on the rooting process and focused on the most effective one. They highlighted that Russia deployed tanks without proper logistical support and failed to provide adequate backup from infantry, artillery, electronic warfare, and close-air support units.A senior officer emphasized the importance of "combined-arms operations" in the conflict and stressed that tanks remain crucial for both offensive and defensive operations, offering mobility, firepower, and armored protection essential for large-scale ground battles.The Army is set to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) this year for a mega project worth an estimated Rs 57,000 crores. The project aims to produce 1,770 Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) in India, replacing the old Russian-origin T-72 tanks from 2030.These FRCVs will incorporate advanced technologies such as AI, drone integration, active protection systems, and high situational awareness. They will also have the capability for manned-unmanned teaming and seamless integration with land and air elements in a network-centric environment.In addition to this project, the Army has already inducted 1,200 T-90S 'Bhishma' tanks and will introduce the first five of the 118 indigenous Arjun Mark-1A tanks this year. These tanks have undergone significant upgrades to enhance firepower, mobility, endurance, and protection.Furthermore, the Army plans to induct 354 indigenous light tanks under Project Zorawar, designed for high-altitude warfare. These tanks, with a weight of less than 25 tonnes, boast superior firepower and protection.The officer emphasized that T-72s and T-90S tanks are also undergoing upgrades, receiving thermal sights, fire detection and suppression systems, automatic target trackers, digital ballistic computers, and commander thermal imagers."The FRCVs will be inducted in three phases, with 590 units in the first phase. Each phase will introduce newer technologies to ensure the highest levels of survivability, lethality, and agility. Tanks, by no means, are dead," the officer added.The Army is also implementing various upgrade plans, including the approval to replace the existing 780 hp engines in its T-72 fleet with 1000-horsepower engines.
