Defense News ,Sweden :- Saab, a company known for its advanced defense solutions, has just landed a major deal with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). This contract, spanning from 2024 to 2026 and worth about SEK 300 million, was officially confirmed in Saab's fourth-quarter report for 2023.
The Swedish Armed Forces, in collaboration with FMV, plan to deploy Saab's Mobile Short Range Air Defence (MSHORAD) solution. This innovative system will be integrated into the BvS10 armored vehicle, playing a crucial role in shaping Sweden's future mobile air defense strategies.
Expressing pride in this collaboration, Görgen Johansson, head of Saab's business area Dynamics, highlights the versatility of their MSHORAD solution. This technology is designed to swiftly identify, counter, and neutralize various air threats, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and armored helicopters. The system comprises a mobile radar unit using the Giraffe 1X radar and a mobile firing unit based on RBS 70 NG. Both units are seamlessly connected through Saab's ground-based air defense command and control solution, GBAD C2. In essence, Saab's MSHORAD ensures mobile and effective protection for military forces on the battlefield.
This significant contract not only showcases Saab's cutting-edge defense capabilities but also signifies a strategic move towards bolstering Sweden's defense mechanisms against evolving air threats.
