Defense News ,Jordan :- Jordan has recently strengthened its military capabilities by acquiring a substantial number of military vehicles from the Netherlands, aimed at enhancing its firepower and ground mobility.
The shipment, consisting of 53 YPR infantry fighting vehicles and 200 DAF YA-4442 trucks in various configurations, was transported from Amsterdam on an undisclosed Dutch vessel. Despite the vehicles age, having served the Netherlands Armed Forces for over 30 years, they have successfully passed international assessments for transfer and are anticipated to make a significant contribution to Jordan military arsenal.
The specific deployment date for these vehicles remains undisclosed, with both the Netherlands and Jordan keeping that information under wraps.
Addressing logistical challenges, the Netherlands included two containers of spare parts and tools in the consignment, totaling a weight of 2.7 million kilograms (5.9 million pounds). Due to the substantial volume, the shipment was executed in four phases, utilizing up to 75 tractor-trailer combinations. The vehicles were transported by train to Eemshaven before being loaded onto a specially hired "lift-on/lift-off" ship designated by Jordan.
Lt. Col. Harry Jansen, the head of the disposal project, acknowledged the challenges faced during the transportation process, stating, "It was quite a challenge to get everything to Eemshaven on time. We had to move forward under the motto "this is what we are going to do." With some adjustments here and there, we managed to get everything to Eemshaven as agreed."
Although the financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed, sources suggest that the proceeds from the sale will directly contribute to the Dutch defense budget.
