Defense News ,Philippines & Indonesia :- Indonesian President Joko Widodo has suggested to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that they consider buying special airplanes to guard against submarines. This idea was brought up during a meeting in Manila where they talked about defense and protecting borders.
The leaders did not provide more details about which specific airplanes are being offered, and Marcos hasn't given his response to Widodo's suggestion yet.
This offer is particularly important because tensions are rising in the West Philippine Sea. The Philippines is currently dealing with a dispute with China over maritime zones.
To strengthen their regional defense, the Armed Forces of the Philippines is planning to buy four more anti-submarine helicopters in the coming years.
Protecting the Seas
The Philippines has recently increased its patrols at sea to counteract China's growing presence in the region.
Last year, the Philippines military started thinking about making changes to its modernization program due to financial limitations. Additionally, they announced the resumption of joint patrols with US troops in the South China Sea. These patrols were stopped during the time of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
