Defense News ,India :- Based on information received before Republic Day celebrations, the Border Security Force (BSF) has issued a security alert, urging its troopers stationed on borders with Pakistan in four states to be extra vigilant for the next two weeks.
The BSF has initiated a special security drill called "Operation Shard Hawa" and directed its troops deployed along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat to stay on high alert.
Typically, a special alert is sounded along the border for about 10 days around Republic Day each year. However, this year, due to the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at the newly constructed Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22, the alert has been extended to two weeks from January 16.
Intelligence inputs suggest six types of threats on the India-Pakistan border on January 26 this year. There are reports that Pakistan Rangers and ISI are actively supporting infiltration attempts by terrorists from ‘Masroor Bada Bhai,’ one of the launch pads used by Pakistan-based terrorists to enter Jammu and Kashmir.
According to intelligence reports, terrorists based in Pakistan are attempting to transport China-made weapons and drugs to the Indian side of the borders using pre-programmed drones in the frontier areas of Punjab and Rajasthan. Pakistan Rangers and ISI are reportedly aiding in these activities.
In response to these threats, security measures have been increased at the Attari Border, Kartarpur Corridor, and Hussainiwala Borders along the India-Pakistan border. The BSF has also heightened surveillance along rivers in the border areas of Jammu and Punjab.
Electronic surveillance has been intensified to prevent security breaches or potential terror attacks. The intelligence report additionally warns of possible infiltration by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists via Gujarat’s Sir Creek area before January 26. Consequently, the BSF has increased patrolling frequency using All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs).
