BAE Systems Restart M777 Lightweight Howitzer Production After Securing USD 50 Million U.S. Army Deal

Defense News ,U.S :- BAE Systems has recently unveiled plans to restart the production of M777 lightweight howitzer structures, fueled by a lucrative deal with the U.S. Army valued at up to USD 50 million. The British defense giant is poised to collaborate with suppliers in both the UK and the U.S. to manufacture titanium components, with the initial shipments anticipated for 2025. As BAE Systems finalizes the contract details and total worth, the company is gearing up to initiate deliveries.

With a growing demand for the M777 artillery systems in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, BAE Systems has witnessed heightened interest in its iconic gun system. The production of howitzer structures takes place in Barrow-in-Furness, Britain, while assembly and testing occur in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Notably, countries like Australia, Canada, and the United States have already contributed these weapons to Ukraine.

John Borton, Vice President and General Manager of BAE Systems Weapons Systems UK, emphasized the significance of restarting production, especially given the ongoing deployment of howitzers in Ukraine. Beyond meeting immediate needs, this contract also opens doors for new and existing users to participate in a fresh M777 production initiative, capitalizing on a robust production line and economies of scale.
