Allison Win $83.3 Million Contract to Upgrade Abrams Main Battle Tank Transmissions

Defense News ,U.S :- The US Army has recently granted an $83.3 million contract to Allison Transmission for the supply of upgraded and new X1100 transmissions for the Abrams main battle tank. This contract underscores the strong and ongoing partnership between Allison and the US Army.


As part of the agreement, Allison Transmission, headquartered in Indiana, will deliver the transmissions to both the US service and foreign military sales customers. The company will blend new components with existing customer hardware, presenting a cutting-edge "zero-mileage transmission" as an integral part of the Abrams System Enhancement Package.


Scheduled deliveries are set to commence this month and will continue through December 2024.


Dana Pittard, Vice President for Defense Programs at Allison Transmission, expressed pride in being a crucial contributor to the world's premier main battle tank and affirmed the company's commitment to supporting the US Army and its allied partners for years to come.


This contract builds on the foundation of a longstanding relationship between Allison and the US Army. In December 2022, the company was initially awarded a $51 million contract to support the Abrams modernization initiative. In August of the same year, Allison was also selected by the army to develop an electric hybrid sub-system for integration into future armored combat vehicles.


Pittard highlighted Allison's strong ties with the US Army and other leading defense vehicle manufacturers, expressing excitement about the future. He noted that Allison is poised to launch a new defense production program every year for the next several years, signaling a period of innovation and growth in the defense sector.
