KUWAIT CITY — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force has claimed it destroyed an AN/FPS-117 early-warning radar at Kuwait's Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base during its latest military operation.
According to the IRGC, the strike targeted a strategic long-range air-surveillance radar operated by Kuwait and integrated into U.S. and coalition air-defense networks across the Gulf.
The IRGC said the attack marks the second AN/FPS-117 radar it has claimed to destroy since the war began. According to Iranian military statements, the first was a similar radar installation in Bahrain.
The AN/FPS-117 is a Lockheed Martin-built long-range three-dimensional air-surveillance radar with a detection range of approximately 470 kilometers. The system is designed to provide early warning by detecting aircraft, drones, and missiles over long distances and is used as part of Kuwait's air-defense infrastructure.
Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base is one of Kuwait's principal military installations and has long hosted U.S. and coalition aircraft supporting regional operations.
Iranian sources also released what they described as post-strike imagery captured by Iran's Khayyam reconnaissance satellite. According to those sources, the satellite image shows the aftermath of the reported attack at Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base.
The reported strike comes amid continuing military exchanges in the region. However, independent verification of the reported destruction of the AN/FPS-117 radar remains limited in publicly available sources. As of the latest available information, U.S. and Kuwaiti authorities have not publicly confirmed the IRGC's claim or released detailed assessments regarding the reported damage.
