Ukraine's Military Boost Arsenal with Over 1.2 Million Drones in 2024
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has achieved a major milestone in modernizing its military arsenal, delivering over 1.2 million drones to its Armed Forces in the first 11 months of 2024. This massive influx of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) reflects Ukraine's strategic push to enhance battlefield capabilities, from reconnaissance to offensive operations, amid ongoing conflict.
The deployment includes a diverse range of drones designed to meet various operational needs. Notably, over 40,000 multirotor reconnaissance drones have been delivered, with 12,000 equipped for night operations. These UAVs provide real-time intelligence, surveillance, and situational awareness, playing a critical role in Ukraine's tactical decisions. Complementing them are 5,000 fixed-wing reconnaissance drones, including advanced models like the Shark, Hor, and Furia. The most remarkable aspect of this procurement effort is the staggering number of FPV kamikaze drones supplied by the State Service for Special Communications under Ministry orders—an impressive 1.1 million units. These drones are engineered for one-way missions, delivering explosive payloads with pinpoint accuracy. Their cost-effectiveness and simplicity make them a cornerstone of Ukraine’s asymmetric warfare strategy, effectively countering larger, more conventional enemy forces.
