Defense News ,Europe :- Raytheon, a prominent defense contractor, has recently clinched a significant contract with the United States Department of Defense (DoD) to produce the highly sought-after GBU-553/B StormBreaker guided bombs. This substantial agreement, announced in an official statement by the US DoD, spans across various branches of the US military and involves international partners such as Norway, Germany, Italy, and Finland.
The lucrative contract, valued at a staggering USD 334.6 million, is scheduled for completion by the end of August 2028. Although the specific quantity of ordered bombs was not explicitly disclosed in the official communication, a previous contract inked in March 2023 sheds light on the anticipated production volume. This earlier agreement, valued at USD 320 million, pertained to 1,500 GBU-53/B StormBreaker bombs.
Raytheon track record in delivering military hardware is commendable, with over 3,000 StormBreaker bombs already supplied to the US Department of Defense. Notably, the first batch of these precision-guided munitions has also been dispatched to Australia, showcasing the global significance of this advanced weaponry.
The GBU-53/B StormBreaker is celebrated for its precision and advanced targeting capabilities, currently integrated with formidable aircraft such as the F-15E Strike Eagle, F-15EX Eagle II, and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
