Indian Navy Unveils New Design for Admirals" Shoulder Piece

Defense News ,India :- The Indian Navy has revealed a fresh design for Admirals" Epaulettes, unveiled during the Navy Day 2023 celebrations in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, following an announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This updated design marks a departure from the previous one, signifying a significant shift in the Navy perspective.

Inspired by the Naval Ensign and influenced by the Rajmudra of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the new design carries historical significance. The Rajmudra, or Royal Seal, was used by Shivaji Maharaj in his official communications, handed down to him by his father Shahajiraje Bhosale.

The Admirals" Epaulettes boast distinctive elements, including the Golden Navy Button, the Octagon, the Sword, and the Telescope. The Golden Navy Button signifies the Navy commitment to moving away from colonial ideologies. The Octagon represents a comprehensive, forward-looking vision that spans all cardinal directions. The Sword emphasizes the Navy raison d etre, highlighting its role as the forefront of national power, dedicated to triumphing in wars, overcoming adversaries, and tackling challenges. The Telescope serves as a symbol of long-term vision, foresight, and vigilance in an ever-evolving world.

This design, as per the official statement, is a genuine reflection of India rich maritime heritage, paying homage to historical symbols of cultural significance. Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction during the Navy Day celebrations, stating, "Inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the nation is progressing, shedding the mentality of dependence. I am pleased that the epaulettes worn by our Naval officers will now carry a glimpse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj heritage."

Beyond being a symbolic link between the Naval flag and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj legacy, this move reinforces India broader narrative of maritime prowess. The unveiling aligns with the government commitment to ushering in a new era rooted in historical and cultural symbolism, as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
