Taiwan and India Sign MOU for Managed Influx of Migrant Workers ,India Dump 'One China Policy'

Defense News ,India :- On Friday, Taiwan and India formalized their intent to collaborate on the recruitment of Indian migrant workers through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU). This significant development was reported by CNA, a Taiwanese publication.

The Ministry of Labour disclosed that both nations will engage in meetings to refine the specifics before an official announcement on the policy is issued. According to the MOU, Taiwan will retain the authority to determine the number of Indian migrant workers admitted and the sectors in which they are permitted to work.

The signing of the pertinent documents took place virtually at a video conference, with Taiwan's representative to India, Baushuan Ger, and his Indian counterpart, Manharsinh Laxmanbhai Yadav, putting pen to paper.

Emphasizing the multifaceted nature of collaboration, the statement highlighted, "The Indian government promotes interaction with Taiwan in the fields of trade, investment, tourism, culture, education, and people's exchanges. It is also based on common interests and promotes India. Labour legally employed overseas."

The Ministry assured that the details of the MOU would be communicated to the Legislature. If subsequent meetings yield mutual agreement, a small-scale trial will be initiated. Priority will be given to workers with a certain educational background or proficiency in English.

Qualified Indian workers will undergo training in Taiwan and will be recruited in accordance with the relevant laws of both nations. Addressing previous speculations, an anonymous Cabinet official clarified that Taiwan does not plan to bring in 100,000 Indian migrant workers, contrary to earlier reports that had triggered a small-scale protest in Taipei last year.
