Saab Start to Built New Carl-Gustaf Weapon Facility in India
Defense News ,India :- Saab recently began building its new Carl-Gustaf manufacturing plant in India with a special ceremony to mark the occasion. The factory will be located in the state of Haryana.
After getting approval for 100% foreign direct investment, Saab has set up a new company called Saab FFVO India Pvt Ltd. This company will own the manufacturing facility and will be responsible for producing the Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon.
Görgen Johansson, Senior Vice President and Head of Saab’s business area Dynamics, expressed pride in constructing the first facility outside Sweden for the Carl-Gustaf. He mentioned the long history of the product with the Indian Armed Forces and the excitement of producing it in India.
Håkan Jevrell, State Secretary for Foreign Trade, Sweden, highlighted the significance of this milestone for both Sweden and India. Saab's factory will be the first foreign-owned defense production facility in India, showcasing the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The facility is being built in the state of Haryana at the MET City at Jhajjar, known for its strong industrial base and potential partners with skilled employees.
Saab plans to collaborate with Indian suppliers and fully adhere to the "Make in India" requirements for the systems manufactured in the facility. The new factory will use advanced technologies, including the latest sighting technology and advanced carbon fiber winding, to manufacture the Carl-Gustaf M4 for the Indian armed forces. Additionally, components produced may be included in systems used by other entities.
The Carl-Gustaf system has been in service with the Indian Army since 1976, serving as the primary shoulder-launched weapon in the Indian Armed Forces.
