Russia Suffered 350,000 Casualties in Ukraine but Still Gains Upper Hand: Intel
Defense News ,Russia Ukraine War :- In recent intelligence reports, it has been revealed that the Russian military has managed to gain a significant advantage in Ukraine, even amidst a staggering toll of over 350,000 casualties since the conflict's onset.
According to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), the daily average of killed and wounded Russian soldiers has surged to 983, marking the highest casualty rate for Moscow since President Vladimir Putin initiated the "special military operation" in Ukraine back in February 2022.
This spike in casualties underscores Russia's adoption of mass or attritional warfare, a strategy involving the mobilization of a large number of soldiers for assaults with minimal cover. Despite the human cost, this approach has intensified pressure on Ukraine's frontline positions, as highlighted in the UK MoD report.
The Association of the US Army (AUSA) recently published a paper asserting that Russia is gaining the upper hand. Invading forces now control crucial Ukrainian territories, and the paper suggests that only brutal land warfare could potentially push them back. However, Kyiv faces challenges due to its diminishing military supplies and the inability to generate the necessary force for such combat.
The AUSA paper states, "Ukraine's inability to generate the size of force, coupled with the destructive warfighting capabilities needed to destroy Russia's army ... means that this war of attrition will likely grind on until either Ukraine can generate the force needed to evict Putin's army, Ukraine becomes strategically exhausted and has to quit the conflict, or both parties decide to end the conflict."
In alignment with these assessments, Norway's intelligence service echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that Moscow has strengthened its position over the past year and is now moving towards gaining a strategic advantage in the ongoing conflict.
