Russia Dismisses Rumors, Disruptions to the S-400 Deliveries to India
Defense News ,Russia & India :- Rosoboronexport's Director General, Alexander Mikheev, has quashed speculation surrounding alleged disruptions to the S-400 air defense system deliveries to India. In response to claims circulating in Western media, Mikheev assured that the contract is proceeding as scheduled, refuting any hindrance to the agreed-upon timelines.
In 2018-19, India inked a deal with Russia worth ₹35,000 crore for the procurement of S-400 missiles. The agreement stipulated the delivery of five squadrons of S-400 missiles to India, with three squadrons already successfully delivered.
Speaking at the World Defence Show in Saudi Arabia, Mikheev addressed the rumors and emphasized that Rosoboronexport is meeting the deadlines outlined in the contract. Contrary to reports suggesting obstacles due to the conflict in Ukraine and increased sanctions, Mikheev asserted that the delivery schedule remains unaffected.
Strategically positioned in the Ladakh sector bordering China and the Indian border in West Bengal, the deployed S-400 systems, as reported by Indian media, play a crucial role in enhancing India's defense capabilities.
Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhary, the commander-in-chief of the Indian Air Force, expressed optimism about the completion of the S-400 supply contract by 2024. Concurrently, the Indian Defence Acquisition Council approved the procurement of the Indian Long Range Surface Air Missile system under Project Kusha, following clearance by the Cabinet Committee on Security.
In a noteworthy development, the Indian Air Force collaborates with the DRDO to expedite the delivery schedule of the Long Range Surface Air Missile (LR-SAM) system. This three-layered defense system is designed to strike down enemy aircraft and missiles at ranges of approximately 400 kilometers, enhancing India's overall air defense capabilities.
