Philippines Envoy Hails President Murmu's Mention of BrahMos Project in Parliament Speech

During her inaugural address to a joint session of Parliament, President Droupadi Murmu drew attention to the pivotal BrahMos project with the Philippines, a sentiment warmly acknowledged by Philippines' Ambassador to India, Jose Francisco Ignacio.

Ambassador Ignacio expressed pride in President Murmu's recognition of the BrahMos project, emphasizing its significance in the 75th year of diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines. He lauded the strengthening trajectory of bilateral ties, underscoring the project's role as a cornerstone.

In January 2022, the Philippines finalized a landmark USD 375 million deal with India for three batteries of the shore-based anti-ship variant of BrahMos, marking the first export of this Indo-Russian joint venture. The initial batch of missiles arrived in April, bolstering defense capabilities.

President Murmu's reference to the BrahMos missile deal during her address underscored India's rising profile in defense exports, signaling robust advancements in the sector. Her speech, the first since the formation of the third National Democratic Alliance government, set the stage for forthcoming parliamentary sessions.

Echoing Ambassador Ignacio's sentiments, Slovakia's Ambassador to India, Robert Maxian, praised the presidential address, highlighting opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in trade and investment. Representatives from diverse nations, including Singapore and Israel, joined in anticipation of President Murmu's pivotal address.
