Defense News ,India :- A new helicopter unit has been added to the Air Force Station in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. This addition will make sure that there are enough resources available for the Southern Air Command's headquarters to do more tasks effectively. The ceremony for this induction happened on March 19.

The Southern Air Command (SAC) is based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

SAC was started in July 1984. It was made to respond to certain events happening around the world. Its main job is to control Air Force assets and quickly send forces to deal with threats in the Indian Ocean Region, said the defense ministry.

As part of recent changes in how Air Force resources are used, a new Helicopter Unit has been added to AFS Thanjavur on March 19.

During the ceremony, Air Marshal B Manikantan, who is in charge of SAC, was present.

Adding this helicopter unit in Thanjavur means that SAC headquarters will have more resources. This will help them do more operations effectively. It will also help with tasks like searching for and rescuing people, providing aid during disasters, and evacuating injured people, the ministry said.
