Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani Takes Charge as Vice Chief of Army Staff

Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani, an officer with a distinguished military career, has assumed the role of Vice Chief of the Army Staff. On Monday, he succeeded Gen Upendra Dwivedi, who had taken over as the Chief of Army Staff just the day before. Throughout his illustrious career, Lt Gen Subramani has held several key command and staff appointments. He commanded a battalion during 'Operation Rhino' in Assam, an infantry brigade along the international boundary with Pakistan, and a 'Black Cat' division in North East India. His leadership of these units under challenging conditions has been exemplary.


In 2020, Lt Gen Subramani took command of the Uttar Bharat Area, further demonstrating his capability to lead large formations. His tenure at the prestigious Kharga Corps in Ambala highlighted his strategic and operational prowess. These roles have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted challenges faced by the Indian Army.


Lt Gen Subramani has also served in crucial staff roles, contributing significantly to the Army’s operational planning and intelligence. His positions have included Brigade Major of a mountain brigade, Assistant Military Secretary in the Military Secretary Branch, Colonel General Staff at Headquarters Eastern Command, Deputy Director General of Military Intelligence in the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence, and Brigadier General Staff in Eastern Command.
