Japan Orders Three H225 Helicopters from Airbus For Coast Guard
The Japanese Coast Guard has recently placed an order for three additional H225 Super Puma helicopters from Airbus, expanding its existing fleet to a total of 18 aircraft. These new helicopters will serve in various coastal missions, such as maritime law enforcement drills and disaster relief efforts.
Airbus' HCare Smart material support management covers all of Japan Self-Defense Forces' H225 aircraft, ensuring 24/7 immediate part support for unscheduled maintenance needs. According to Airbus Helicopters Japan Managing Director Jean-Luc Alfonsi, the H225's versatility makes it well-suited for Japan's law enforcement requirements, especially for all-weather coastal and island missions.
The Japan Coast Guard has a longstanding relationship with the Super Puma family of helicopters, spanning three decades. Alfonsi emphasized that this follow-on order reflects the customer's confidence in Airbus products and the dedicated support provided to their fleet.
Japan's H225 fleet has seen recent growth, with three units added in December and an additional helicopter in February. The H225 Super Puma is a twin-engine helicopter designed for offshore support and public service missions, capable of carrying up to 24 passengers in one trip.
Powered by Turbomeca Makila 2A1 engines, the H225 can achieve a maximum speed of 170 miles (275 kilometers) per hour and has a range of 533 miles (857 kilometers). Currently, the H225 is utilized by 12 countries for military purposes, including Hungary, Singapore, and Indonesia.
