Indra to Upgrade Canada’s Defense Air Traffic Management With 600 Advanced Radios
In a move to modernize its air traffic management systems, Canada’s Department of Defence has awarded a contract to Indra for the supply of approximately 600 new radios. The project, valued at over 13 million euros ($13.5 million), will enhance ground-to-air communication capabilities across the country’s defense infrastructure.
Under the agreement, Indra will equip Canada with its Park Air T6 radios, a cutting-edge voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) solution designed for secure and efficient communication between pilots and ground crews. Additionally, the system will include M7 radios, which are tailored to operate on NATO-secured frequencies, ensuring seamless interoperability with allied forces.
The production of these radios will take place at Indra’s Park Air facility in the UK, while an in-country support team will be established in Canada to ensure the smooth deployment and long-term maintenance of the systems. Indra has emphasized that its technology will not only enhance operational efficiency but also reduce energy consumption and minimize environmental impact.
Victor Martínez García, General Manager of Indra Air Traffic Management, highlighted the strategic importance of this deal. He stated that the contract strengthens Indra’s role as a trusted partner in NATO countries and marks a significant step forward in the company’s expansion within the defense sector. With Canada’s Department of National Defence now added to its list of customers, Indra aims to reinforce its presence as a key player in the global aerospace and defense industry.
This upgrade is expected to significantly improve communication capabilities in high-demand air traffic environments, ensuring Canada’s defense aviation sector remains at the forefront of technological advancements.
