Indian Army Welcome 6 Electric Buses And Identifies 29 stations for Electric Vehicle Infrastructure
Defense News ,India :- In a move to make its operations more environmentally friendly, the Indian Army welcomed six electric buses in Delhi on Tuesday. They plan to set up electric vehicle infrastructure in cantonments and units, aiming for a greener and sustainable operational environment.
Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS), led the induction of these buses, stating, "By introducing these buses, the Army aims to reduce its carbon footprint and promote the preservation of the environment."
This is part of the Indian Army's ongoing commitment to support the country's green initiatives. They are investing about Rs 175 crore to acquire over 110 electric vehicles (EVs). While currently operational in Delhi, there are future plans to expand the EV fleet to other regions in the coming years.
The Army is in the process of procuring 60 more electric buses, along with 415 electric cars and 423 electric motorcycles, expected to be inducted by December 2025. This expansion is expected to significantly reduce logistics loads by cutting down fuel requirements, promoting environmental sustainability.
The Indian Army has pinpointed 29 stations and 145 units where electric vehicle support systems either exist or are planned, paving the way for a future where electric vehicles will be widely used in peace stations. This move ensures a greener and more sustainable operational environment.
The Indian Army's efforts to contribute to environmental preservation include various impactful initiatives.
