India Successfully Conducts Maiden Test of Long-Range Glide Bomb ‘Guarav

India has made a significant stride in its defense capabilities with the successful maiden flight test of its long-range glide bomb, the "Guarav." Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the test was carried out off the coast of Odisha, marking a new milestone in India's indigenous defense technologies.


Test Details and Performance

The flight test involved an Indian Air Force Su-30 MK-I fighter jet as the launch platform. During the test, the Guarav was released from the aircraft and demonstrated its precision by accurately hitting a target located 100 kilometers (approximately 62 miles) away. The glide bomb is guided by a hybrid navigation system that uses both inertial navigation and GPS technology, enabling it to strike with high accuracy. Telemetry and electro-optical tracking systems deployed by the Integrated Test Range monitored the entire test, capturing comprehensive flight data.



Following the successful test, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO and its development partners, emphasizing that this achievement is a crucial step in strengthening India’s defense capabilities and reducing reliance on imported weaponry.

The Guarav is a 1,000-kilogram (2,200-pound) air-launched glide bomb developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, a key DRDO lab.
