HENSOLDT Advances Bundeswehr Helicopter Readiness with Completion of Modern EUA NT System Testing

German defence technology company HENSOLDT has announced a significant milestone with the successful testing of its modernised Einsatzunterstützungsanlage Neue Technologien (EUA NT) system. Conducted at four Bundeswehr helicopter bases, this marks the culmination of a project commissioned by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) in May 2022. The advanced EUA NT system is set to play a pivotal role in supporting the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr’s rotorcraft fleet for the next 15 years.

Next-Generation Support for Bundeswehr Helicopters

The EUA NT system has been specifically designed to enhance mission support for key Bundeswehr helicopter models, such as the NH90 and Tiger. By incorporating cutting-edge technology, the system ensures a high level of operational efficiency and readiness, even under challenging conditions. Key upgrades include modernised software, advanced communication tools, and secure IT solutions compliant with stringent classified security levels (VS-GEHEIM).

This upgrade reflects a forward-looking approach, as the system is not only tailored to current needs but also adaptable for future technological advancements and potential new weapon systems.

Modular Container Design for Operational Flexibility

At the heart of the EUA NT system is its modular container-based structure. It consists of two types of containers:

  1. System Container:

    • Functions as a mobile IT base with fail-safe network technology.
    • Includes two workstations to serve as a relocatable command cell.
  2. Personnel Container:

    • Designed for ergonomic operation, accommodating up to six operators.
    • Supports seamless coordination and decision-making during missions.

These containers are scalable and can be interconnected to form a robust and adaptable data network, enabling quick deployment and comprehensive operational control.

Enhanced Operational Resilience

The EUA NT system also incorporates state-of-the-art features to ensure operational reliability in diverse environments:

  • Radiation-Shielded Units: Provides robust protection against electromagnetic interference.
  • Automated Power Generators and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS): Ensures continuous operation, even during power disruptions.

These capabilities reflect operational lessons learned from previous Bundeswehr deployments in Afghanistan and Mali, addressing both current and future mission requirements.

Ready for Production and Implementation

Following the successful testing phase, HENSOLDT will now begin series production of the EUA NT system, retrofitting existing units while replicating the advanced design. The system's modular and open architecture ensures its longevity, allowing it to support evolving operational needs over the coming years.

Future-Proofing Bundeswehr Capabilities

Programme Manager Alex Irmscher emphasised the collaborative effort and innovation driving the project:

“With the New Technologies Mission Support System, we are creating a future-proof solution that will sustainably strengthen the operational capability of the Bundeswehr. The system’s modularity and flexibility are key to meeting the challenges of the coming years.”

HENSOLDT’s EUA NT system represents a significant leap forward in supporting Germany’s defence infrastructure. With its advanced design and future-ready capabilities, the Bundeswehr’s rotorcraft fleet is well-positioned to meet operational demands for the next decade and beyond.
