German Parliament Greenlights Over 500 Stinger Anti-Aircraft Missile Purchase

In a significant move to reinforce its air defense capabilities and support Ukraine, the German Parliament's Budget Committee has approved the acquisition of over 500 Stinger anti-aircraft missiles. This decision marks a crucial step in Germany's commitment to both national security and international solidarity amidst ongoing global tensions.

The approved purchase entails 506 man-portable Stinger FIM-92K Block I missiles, which are equipped with proximity fuses. Developed by Raytheon, this 10-kilogram (22-pound) system is designed to neutralize low-flying fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft at a range of up to 8 kilometers (5 miles) and an altitude of up to 4 kilometers (2.5 miles). The missile's fire-and-forget capability, combined with its fragmentation warhead that detonates on impact or in proximity to the target, makes it a formidable tool in air defense.

This advanced technology allows the missile to lock onto a target's heat signature, ensuring high accuracy and effectiveness in combat scenarios.
