As they were deinducting from a military training exercise, an unexpected surge in the Shyok River's water level led to their T-72 tank being swept away near Saser Brangsa.

The accident occurred during a routine river crossing exercise, a common maneuver in the challenging terrains of Ladakh. The soldiers, including one Junior Commissioned Officer and four jawans, were caught off guard by the sudden and fierce rise in the river's current. Despite the immediate dispatch of rescue teams, the ferocious water levels and currents thwarted all efforts to save the crew. By Saturday morning, it was confirmed that all five soldiers had perished in the incident.

The Shyok River, which flows through the rugged terrains of Eastern Ladakh, is known for its sudden and treacherous changes in water levels, especially during the monsoon season. This tragic event is a stark reminder of the perils that soldiers endure while safeguarding the nation's borders.

As the nation mourns the loss of these five heroes, their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the bravery and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces. Their legacy will continue to inspire and strengthen the resolve of the nation to support and honor its soldiers who stand guard, often in the most unforgiving environments.
