Defence Ministry Clears ₹84,560 Crore Procurement to Strengthen Armed Forces Combat Capabilities
Defense News India :- In a significant development, the Defence Ministry granted approval on Friday for the procurement of military hardware totaling ₹84,560 crore. This substantial investment aims to enhance the overall combat capabilities of the armed forces and was sanctioned by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Among the approved proposals are anti-tank mines, air defence tactical control radar, heavy-weight torpedoes, medium-range maritime reconnaissance, multi-mission maritime aircraft, flight refueler aircraft, and software-defined radios.
The DAC specifically greenlit the acquisition of medium-range maritime reconnaissance and multi-mission maritime aircraft to bolster the surveillance and interdiction capabilities of both the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. This decision reflects the commitment to strengthening maritime security.
Additionally, the DAC endorsed the procurement of air defence tactical control radar to fortify air defence systems, focusing on the detection of slow, small, and low-flying targets. The move is a strategic response to evolving security challenges.
To augment operational efficiency and dominance in the tactical battle area, the DAC approved the necessity for acquiring a canister-launched anti-armour loiter munition system. This will enable mechanized forces to engage targets beyond the visual line of sight, enhancing their overall effectiveness.
Furthermore, the DAC granted approval for the procurement of a Flight Refueler Aircraft, designed to elevate the operational capabilities and reach of the Indian Air Force. This decision underscores the commitment to maintaining a formidable and technologically advanced air force.
In summary, the recent approvals by the Defence Ministry underscore a comprehensive strategy to modernize and strengthen the armed forces, addressing current and future challenges effectively. The substantial investment reflects the nation's commitment to maintaining a robust defense infrastructure.
