AZAD Engineering Limited Secures Major Contract with GTRE for Advanced Gas Turbine Engine Manufacturing

AZAD Engineering Limited has secured a contract with GTRE to manufacture advanced gas turbine engines for defense applications, showcasing their precision engineering capabilities. This partnership underscores India's growing prowess in defense manufacturing.

AZAD Engineering Limited, a leader in precision engineering and manufacturing, has won a prestigious contract from the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE). GTRE, a key R&D organization under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Ministry of Defence, has selected AZAD as the production agency for an advanced gas turbine engine critical for defense applications. The first batch of these fully integrated engines is expected to be delivered by early 2026.

The contract involves the complete manufacturing and assembly of a sophisticated gas turbine engine designed with a single-spool turbojet setup. This includes a 4-stage axial flow compressor, an annular combustor, a single-stage axial flow uncooled turbine, and a fixed exit area nozzle. The advanced propulsion system is intended for various defense applications.

AZAD's selection as the sole industry partner for GTRE highlights the company's strong engineering and manufacturing capabilities. India has a solid track record of creating top-tier engine designs using indigenous technology. However, turning these designs into engines that meet stringent mission-critical objectives remains a significant challenge.
